I read all these negative reviews on the battery dying quickly and want to give my advice. My battery is 3yrs old; I use my scooba 4 tankfuls each week and the battery still keeps a charge to clean a full tank on a single charge. My secret is I don't leave the battery in the scooba charging all the time. I charge my battery just before I use it and remove it from the charger/scooba until I use it. Because the battery will self discharge slowly, I don't recharge immediately after use and I use the battery immediately or within 3hrs of being fully charged. Even the constant tiny trickle charge will overcharge the battery, which is the number 1 reason the battery dies so quickly. I know the instruction says to leave it on the charger for best battery life but I think it overcharges the battery. My 3 yr old battery is proof my method works. My battery is still wearing out since I use to get over 2 full tanks of cleaning but at least it still cleans a tankful unlike many people's battery who report only 10 minutes after 8 months.
I use this same principle on all my rechargeable batteries and get same results. I have a 4yr old electric-start self propelled lawn mower battery, 5yr old rechargeable AA, AAA, C, D batteries, 3yr drill batteries -- all going strong.

We have had the Scooba about a year. First one developed wheel issue so Cust. Svc. gave us a replacement. Second one is running fine.
You MUST keep the brushes, filters and all removable parts clean after every tank, otherwise it doesn't vacuum the dirty water properly.
I recommend a second battery. One is just barely enough. One in the charging base while the other is at work.
I hope they improve the navigation software. It takes forever to negotiate objects in the room. Try to de-clutter the room as best you can. Break it into small areas walled off with virtual walls or objects like wastebaskets, etc. to keep it in a small (8x8 or 12x12)area for best cleaning.

I have used my Scooba about 15 times, before I had to replace the battery, due to battery failure. This is one of the problems with rechargables. It seems that the more you charge the battery, the less time the charge last. The battery replacements are very expensive. I have enjoyed my Scooba because I don't have to get on my hands and knees to clean my kitchen floor anymore, but I did not like that I had to replace the battery already.

Great product and customer service. Unfortunatly, the batteries do not last. This is my fourth one. Wish the Rechargable Battery was either cheaper or actually worked.

Comments about iRobot Scooba® Battery, Blue:
I purchased my first Scooba Easter 2006. It developed issues after about five months. They sent me a replacement battery under warranty, which fixed the issues. After a couple more months, it started to last only ten minutes, then say "low power", even on a fully charged battery. They said something was faulty w/ the logic in the machine, and sent me a device to reprogram it, along with a third battery, all under warranty. Issues resolved. I forget what happened next, but they sent me an entirely new Scooba, under warranty. After a while, I forget again, what the details were, but I waited too long, and the warranty on that second Scooba expired. I just purchased an "out of warranty exchange" (heavily discounted new or rebuilt unit) finally, in August this year. That unit will not work out of the box. Returned it, they sent another one. Now, after all these months of waiting for a working Scooba, the third battery, the one working one, is degraded from inactivity, and will not hold a charge (rechargeable batts don't like inactivity). So I'm about to purchase my FOURTH battery in two years, having had an actual functioning Scooba running in my household for a total of less than eleven months of these 2.5 years. So, I'm debating buying the cheaper battery.
I love the blasted thing-- when it works. However, I am getting weary of all the issues. I will say that the folks in Tech Support have been wonderful every time.
