This is my second Roomba. The first one (one of the earliest models), I bought second-hand and broke down after more than a year of faithful service. [...] I love this robot and wish I could buy all of my friends one. It is a fantastic "mother's helper". By keeping the dirt down on my floors, I have less dust on my other surfaces, not to mention, brighter and whiter socks! It's only downfall is it doesn't fold and put away laundry. I am saving up for a Scooba now. iRobot, please come up with a complete housekeeping robot - I would love to be your beta tester! BTW - We have adopted this one and refer to it as my son's "little brother". It has definitely become part of our family

I must admit, as an owner of two golden retrievers, I was skeptical of the roomba's advertised capabilities. However, after owning one for just one week, I couldn't be more impressed with its performance. Our home is all hardwood floors and only has floor vents. This means that all of our pet hair (which is plenty) gets blown into corners and under furniture. Amazingly, our Roomba cleans up the entire mess with absolutely no problem. If you own a pet, or plan on owning a pet, this Roomba is a must have. As a bonus, it does not bother our pets in the slightest.

P.S.
This is my first online review of any product...ever. I cannot explain how much I appreciate and value its capabilities. I absolutely felt the need to remove all doubt from anyone considering this purchase.

Enjoy!

This robot has been such a help for me. Saves lots of time! I run it just about every day, alternating areas. We have 3 cats that constantly shed and now, finally the pet hair problem is under control. The main reason I bought it is because our grandson is allergic to the dander and hair. So I'm very pleased that this little robot works as well as promised.

Insanely Wonderful

This thing is insanely wonderful. It does an incredible job getting up the dog hair. We have two Australian Shepherds who are currently going through a "blowing their coat" cycle - vacuum Sunday, floor looks like a hair farm by Monday night. We vacuumed three days ago, figuring Rhonda would enjoy an easy start, but she's pulled up tons of dog hair.

Yes, the brushes and beater bar get "felted" with the hair. Any good vacuum with floor brushes does that. But the cleaning tools are spectacular, the first time I fed that brush through the tube and it came out almost completely clean, I wanted to send one to the Dyson people and tell them to be as creative as iRobot. It took me two minutes to clean the brushes with the provided tools last time Rhonda called me. With a regular vacuum it's a ten minute minimum job.

The dogs pretty much ignore it. When it trills at start up, they do the head cocked curious thing, but once it gets moving they watch a bit and then go hang out in another room. Both have "challenged" it, refusing to move, going on visible alert, and letting it run into them. Rhonda bumped them, turned around and wandered off elsewhere, and since that they've both completely lost interest in her.

Biggest problem for us: we have many Persian rugs, and the ones that have long thread-like fringe get caught and Rhonda can't figure out how to get free. She handles the rugs with shorter fringe or more frizzy fringe just fine, has a great "getting unstuck" routine, but it just can't handle a couple rugs. We're trying to figure out how to deal with that, because we want her to go EVERYWHERE.

My wife teased me when I said we should get Rhonda, "boy toys" and all that. SHE is the one who is now bugging me to get the floor washing robot.

Fabulous!

Weak Suction

I have allergies but won't kick my dogs out of the bedroom. I now use this in my bedroom every day and it does wonders. I recently tried a "regular" roomba that my friend has and it did not pick up nearly as much as my "pet" version with the different brushes. I tell everyone about this product and several have bought one for themselves or for their wives.

I feel I have bought a maid!
By Gay from Monticello, GA on 6/27/2007
Pros:
Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Deep Cleaning Ability, Hassle Free Operation, Large Debris Bin, Long Run Time
Cons:
Loud Operation
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:
Homeowner, Pet Owner
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

There is a small amount of prep work before turning Roomba loose to do its thing. I pick up a few things so Roomba can have access to the places with no obstructions, but once completed I walk around and put those items back in place. Small price to pay for such a wonderful little maid! Roomba does such a good job that even the dusting of the furniture has becomes obsolete for the most part. No more dusting every other day to the low spots. I run Roomba at least once a day and I could not be happier with my purchase!
