I love the iDog! Turn it on and walk away. I even use it in my house and it does a great job picking up the dog hairs and dirt. I have two - one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Can't go wrong with this "dog!"
We recently installed a tile floor throughout most of our house and while we loved the way it looked, it was such a pain to sweep. The Dirt Dog is incredible, we went from sweeping manually 3 times a week to turning on the dirt dog when we get home from work. No hassle, no worries. Now we're free to do other things and can still enjoy a clean tile floor. We couldn't believe how much it got up the first time we ran it, hair, dust, dirt, even some wood chips the dog dragged in!
My only problem is there are places that collect hair/dust that you can't really get to, such as under the cover but behind the collection bin.
It works great in the house and garage.I used the dirt dog in the garage and my wife used in the house and now she will not give it back to me.I might have to buy another one.
My father gave me the Dirt Dog as a gift because he loved his regular Roomba so much. I have 3 cats and a rabbit, which means I need heavy-duty vacuum power. All four shed like crazy and use litterboxes, and the rabbit likes to through his food (seeds and pellets) and hay all over my rug. The Dirt Dog picks ALL of it up (and trust me, hay is one of the hardest things to get off of a rug)! I have used it on wood floors, tile, carpet, and a rug and it works great on all of them. I do, however, reccommend buying some of the virtual walls.

My Irobot Dirt Dog run daily. Every morning I set in the middle of my living room, hit the button and leave the house with it running.
When I get home, the floors look nice and swept!
Then I must go find Irobot and take it back to charge it for the next day. I brag on the machine often!
keeps the shop clean

We bought the Dirt Dog in hopes of keeping our tile floor free of our Shepherd/Rotty mix's hair. Not only is our floor virtually free of dog hair (for our eight month-old son) but has reclaimed my wife's 'sanity'. This little guy not only picked up the hair, but the dust and dirt from the grout as well. Wonderful product and time saver.
I have two Dirt Dogs that share the work of cleaning my basement. There are two bedrooms,a game room, large family room/kitchen combo, as well as a bathroom. Most of this 1500sq ft space is tile and these guys do an excellent job of keeping it clean. Anyone living in the Pacific Northwest knows how annoying pine needles are! Every day at Noon they sound their victory cry and go to work! Best of all they are tucked away under the pool table safe and out of sight!

I have a white english bull terrier that sheds like crazy and my wife is pregnant and we dont want all that pet hair near the baby when she arrives. The floor was always full of hair and no amount of sweeping would ever get rid of it. I had a scooba unit before I met my wife about 2 years ago until it stopped working but I liked the way it cleaned. Since i liked the scooba but didnt want to spend 300 bucks again I got this guy and wow! I just press the button and it goes and cleans the entire floor without any problems. Picks up so much dog hair I can't believe it. My wife is an iRobot believer now too. So yes it works great indoors on our tile and great in the garage as well. If you have tile get a dirt dog or a scooba, if you've got carpet get a roomba. Oh by the way this unit is way tougher and simpler than my old scooba.

I love my Dirt Dog. I'm somewhat fanatical about having a clean garage, and my garage has never been as clean as it is since I got my Dirt Dog. I roll the car and motorcycle outside, take out some of the larger things such as the trash container, and turn DD loose. It even picks up those nasty dried worms that seem to get in the garage every time there's a hard rain.
I just bought a new house and took DD over there for the first time. It did stir up quite a bit of dust on it's first time out. Hopefully that will get better every time I use it. This is new construction, and it was a mess.
Two thumbs up!

I was trying to decide between the 500 series and the DD for picking up after our Labrador that sheds like crazy year round. After reading the reviews about the sweeper brush breaking on the 500 series I thought I would give the DD a try. After an initial cleaning to get the hair drifts (like snow drifts only made out of dog hair) and a quick 'robot proofing' of the house (securing cords off the floor) the DD went to work! It cleans our whole 900sf house on one charge, and does a great job! DD is not just for the shop! It's very durable, and does a really good job on our hardwood floors and low pile rugs. The shag rug has to have the corners flipped up though. I would recommend the DD without reservation; our house has never been cleaner!

Gads...am I the only one that has had a problem with the Dirt Dog....iRobot has been great at replacing the Dirt dog ....have no problem with them at all...after a few weeks ...the dirt dog will run but picks up nothing....brushes do not move...I bought it to sweep the cement floor in my barn.....I do not have half of the stuff on my floor that the other reviews talk about......I even make sure there are no small pieces of gravel on the floor and block off the area where the tractor sits so it wil not go there...I have no straw etc. on the floor...wish I knew why I have a problem with the dirt dog....I love the little guy....even bought our daughter-in-law one...we also have two 500 series...I do not know how I lived without them...my husband thought they would be a joke....was blown away at what a great job they do vacuuming the carpets....I run the two 500 series and Dirt Dog every day …I also clean them every day......will be buying the one to clean the gutters

This is my third IRobot. Just got a Scheduler and was so impressed about the imporvements since the first Roomba. Bought the Dirt Dog for garage and unfinished basement where our 2 big dogs and my workshop reside. It even picks up half eaten rawhide sticks. Vey durable and just like any robot needs maintenance and cleaning but worth it.

I bought this handy little robot to use in our garage. It seems like we have a "vortex" that draws in all the leaves from the neighborhood! I'm so sick of spending my weekends sweeping out the garage (or nagging my husband to do so), I felt the price of the Dirt Dog was well worth all the free time we would gain.
I decided to do a test run of the Dirt Dog in our house to see how it worked. My husband commented that it probably wouldn't pick up anything and was a waste of time. I turned on the robot and let it run for about 15 minutes on our laminate floors and short pile area rugs. I was amazed at how well it navigated around our dining room table, zipping between chair legs. It was almost like it could see where it was going!
The first thing I did when I turned off the robot was check the dust bin. Keep in mind, our cleaning service had been at the house 2 days prior, we don't wear shoes in the house and we have no pets or children. I wasn't sure what to expect, but there was a reasonable amount of dirt collected in the bin! I was shocked at how much the Dirt Dog picked up in only 15 minutes. I went over and showed the contents of the dust bin to my skeptical husband, and he was very surprised as well.
The Dirt Dog definitely exceeded my expectations. It works so well in the house, I almost don't want to put it out in the garage! I may need to buy a second one at some point!

Rheumatic shoulders - so I hate wielding the broom every day.
Yella keeps on top of cat hair by doing that daily rough sweep that it hurts me to do.
And relatively quietly, so that I can still hear other stuff going on.
On the design: what I've always wanted for any sweeper - robot or no - replaceable and cleanable brushes. Very very good design here.

I use this robot on my whole house, and I love it.
The only down side is that long hairs get tangled in the brushes and the run time does'nt quite alow the robot to get the entire house. I know that this robot is for shop use but it really does a great job on my hard wood floor carpet and linoleum floors. I would recommend the Dirt dog to anyone and everyone.

This is our second iRobot. We got the first one several years ago, and loved it, but when it started to go (the battery was only lasting a short time), I saw an ad for the Dirt Dog and thought it would be the answer to our prayers. You see, my husband has complained for years about how our next dog would have to be a poodle because our yellow Lab sheds incessantly (summer, winter, no matter what)! With the Dirt Dog's large capacity, my husband can survive without a replacement poodle. Nothing against poodles, but we never thought a dog could shed as much as our Lab. In fact, we could weave carpets, sweaters and blankets out of the fur output of this dog, but the Dirt Dog sucks it all up without any trouble at all.

Initially, I read about all the products, because my budget was limited. I loved Frida the first time she side-stepped the dog, ignored the cats, busied herself around the bird cages, and took an I'll show you attitude with my wife (she was just sure I'd wasted money on a garage do-dad). I wasn't sure what she thought until I heard her kuudos when she was speaking with her sister on the phone. She said it was one of the best purchases I'd made since we married. OH Yeah!!
PS Frida does patios, outside doorways, and inside tile flooring. She even does stiff throw carpets. She's my girl. Just try and take her from me.

I was checking out the website for the roomba 570 when I discovered the dirt dog (had never heard of it prior). I was skeptical around the whole roomba concept but was intrigued by the novelty and potential upside if the technology delivered as advertised (last thing i wanted to do was repeat the brain damage from my mid '90s foray into an apple newton). Ultimately I couldn't bring myself to risk $400 for the 570 but the dirt dog's low price made it an easy experiment. When it arrived I was so anxious to use it I just plugged it in w/o reading the instructions and came back a couple days later to put it to work. I took it to my workshop, set it down and enjoyed about 10 seconds of satisfaction until it stoped working completely. I struggled with it for at least an hour (to the point of disassembling anything that looks like it can hide debris which could cause moving parts to sieze - which isn't much) and finally go for the manual. After going through the troubleshooting section (many times) and spending another hour all I can think about are the negative reviews I read and the apple newton episode. At that point I was so frustrated my last and final step (before sending it back in 1000 pieces) was to read the manual from cover to cover. As I'm reading the first two pages I realized I never saw the "clean" light illuminated as I was charging it. So, I plug it in again and the light starts fading in and out (like it's supposed to). As it turns out I didn't have the battery pack in all the way the first shot so it never charged at all. So this time I'm super anxious to get it going so I give it 10 hours on the charger and then back to the workshop (about 2am...). I fire it up and it works exactly as advertised. I watched for 10 minutes or so, picked up a few things around the shop to faciliate unobstructed coverage (16x25 building) and decided to leave it for the rest of the night. I came back the next morning and was blown away by how clean my shop floor was - not only in obvious places where I'd vacumn the few times I actually did, but under tool stands, workbenches, shelves etc that I hadn't cleaned in years. I then checked the container to see how much debris it picked up (it didn't matter at that point but it was curiousity more than anything) and it was jammed w/ sawdust, woodchips, paper/cardboard pieces (I think it took out a mouse nest or two) etc. Job well done and expectations exceeded accross the board. What it missed, didn't do well? Minor things, like inside right angles for obvious reasons(outside ones were fine), string/ribbon type debris a problem (I had a bunch wrapped around the brushes that I could tell impeded efficiency) and lastly larger nails/screws/nuts etc seemed too heavy for it (although it did pick up brads, 10 penny nails fine). Net net a home run. My shop floor now looks like one from the woodworking magazines and airbourne dust debris that always caused me problems when staining/spraying poly practically a non factor (although I would recommend just like w/ a regular vacumn do it the day before you stain/spray). I'm ordering a 570 without hesitation (after I'm done writing this long review) and seriously contemplating another dirt dog for my garage. Lastly, as an aside, I have Ademco motion detectors and the dirt dog does NOT trigger them - it could be specific to my set up but I have pretty comprehensive overlapping coverage.

I would marry this vacuum. In our large live/work loft, the walls are 40 feet apart and sadly lacking in electrical outlets, making vacuuming the concrete floors with a traditional machine time-consuming and infuriating. Before Dog the Dusty Hunter arrived, we were always wearing slippers and encouraging our clients to leave their shoes on, but all that has changed now. The floors are clean, my allergies are reduced, and our dog has a new playmate as she chases it around. Rhie and Dog the Dusty Hunter, a match made in heaven.

Gets "caught", but not a problem and wouldn't leave any eletronic running while away. My cat loves them and thinks they are great things to stalk when they are running.

I am building a new home and living in my holiday trailer. I found this on the internet and thought I would give the dirt dog a try. It is wonderful. It even cleans my mat by the door of my trailer. I can't wait till my house is finished so I can try the Roomba. I took the dirt dog over to my mothers and she said "I just cleaned my floor you won't pick up any thing with that!" Well was she wrong! About 45 min later the bin was full with all kinds of dog hair and dust bunnies. She wants one for Christmas.

I bought this one for my very old tough as nails nylon carpet in my apartment. Normal vacuum cleaners couldn't pick up anything in my carpet, but the Dirt Dog cleaned it so thoroughly I was shocked. One of my best friends (who works in carpet) couldn't believe the difference it had made. I know these are recommended for workshops, etc, but it really worked well on my old carpet. I thought my carpet had been clean previously, but after running the Dirt Dog just once, it's dustbin was completely filled. And it gets under the bed and other furniture which I have never been able to do before.

This is an excellent product. It takes the hassle out of cleaning up the workshop several times a week and does a much better job than we would ever take the time to do ourselves!

There is nothing bad about this product "The DOG:. I keep the cat litter houses in our garage and this baby just keep my garage really spotless. PICKS UP EVERYTHING. I really love this model it just keeps going, going and going, never seems to run out of steam......
It is efficient, in fact I prefer this model over all the others. No good for carpet though, this is purely for floor. I have used this on my sealed wood floors and it is fine. Great for the kitchen as well and really picks up all the little things that drop. Could be quieter but not that bad in the way of noise. Extra large bin, no filter required with this model, The brushes are much more stiffer than the other models. If you need something to pick up nuts and bolts, this will, pieces of wood and loads of birdseed, this is the little helper who gets stuck in.

This robot is so much more than just a Workshop vac. Not only can it pick up literally anything you throw at it including glass, nuts & bolts, sawdust, or rocks, but it is also great for light cleaning around the house. For inside the house tasks like regular vacuming, you are probably better off with a Roomba, but if you have something heavier to clean, the Dirt Dog can do it!
P.S.
It is great on HEAVY pet hair
