Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

We use ELIZABETH to clean all the rooms in our house. We have hardwood floors and throw carpet/rugs. The side edging brush gets caught under them frequently and easily preventing ELIZABETH from easily cleaning the rugs. The side brushes supplied with her broke off in the first few days. the replacements have been much better, but still cause problems transitioning from hardwood to rugs. She does require frequent and meticulous cleaning to function well. However the pros greatly outweigh the cons. Oh yes, ELIZABETH entertains and is a great conversation piece when company shows up. Why sweep floors ahead of time when ELIZABETH keeps conversation lively.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

This product is wonderful. Instead of me vacuuming for an hour and a half on our four levels, dragging around the heavy vacuum, my husband with his bad back can set the Roomba to work, clean it, charge it and set it to go again on another level! It has relieved me a major weekly chore! I highly recommend it. Still have to do some heavy cleaning every once in a while but regular maintenance is handled by Roomba. Treat yourself!

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I had wanted to get a Roomba for a while, and just never got around to it until I found a price I couldn't refuse.

The day before it arrived, I vacuumed the entire house with the Kirby, so I didn't think the Roomba would pick much stuff up. I was wrong! It went lots of places that I only vacuum a couple of times a year, and completely filled the dust bin on the first run.

I had initially thought that not having a docking station would be a drawback, but I'm actually kind of glad that it doesn't.

If I had bought one with a charging station, I probably would never think to empty it, which would probably result in a very short life-span. This way, whenever I pick it up, I just dump the bin on my way to the charger.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I do like the roomba however it does get stuck frequently and the side brushes constantly break. The brushes need to be cleaned frequently and hair gets wrapped around them. It does pick up dog hair well off of the hardwood which is the reason we purchased the roomba.

Not bad at all!
By Not Sweeping TodayVerified Reviewer from Ottawa, ON on 6/25/2009
Pros:
Cleans Effectively, Covers Entire Room, Hassle Free Operation
Cons:
Can Get Stuck, Loses Charge Quickly, Loud Operation
Best Uses:
Hardwood Floors, Tile Floors
Describe Yourself:
Homeowner
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I use this on my main floor, which is all hardwood and tile. I just moved in recently and there are still lots of things on the floor - small furniture, lots of wires, boxes and the roomba does a pretty good job of making it around. It rarely gets stuck and generally does a fantastic job of cleaning.

It is a bit on the loud sound and has trouble making it back to the charger sometimes. I think it will have an easier time when I tidy up my floors though!

Overall I'm VERY happy with my purchase (then again I also got it for a large discount)

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I am a college student and as such have very little time to clean. However, I rent and would really like my deposit back so I bought Jeeves. He does a great job! He cleans under cabinets and along base boards so you never have that line of dirt, dust and pet hair that accumulates there. He cleans under my couch which if it weren't for him would NEVER be cleaned. I have found my allergies have died down tremendously since using him. He does require frequent maintenance but it usually only takes a few minutes each time. He is also quite loud so you might want to wait until you don't have to study/do work at home. Bottom line: the amount of cleaning time you have saved yourself and the resulting cleanliness is worth the time maintaining/listening to him work. Jeeves is my hero.

All You Really Need in an iRobot Roomba
By ChromodynamicsVerified Reviewer from Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 4/4/2009
Pros:
Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Covers Entire Room, Hassle Free Operation, Pet Friendly
Cons:
Non-Bearing Gearbox, Not Home Base Compatible, Small 1800-mAh Battery
Best Uses:
Carpeted Rooms, Hardwood Floors, High Traffic Rooms, Small Rooms, Spot and Dry Spill Pickup, Tile Floors
Describe Yourself:
Homeowner
My Robot's Name:
Thumper
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

You could buy a better 500 Series Roomba, no doubt, but the Roomba 510 model has all the same basic cleaning ability design as all the other Roombas in the product line. Mine came with the new standard round bristle Pet Brush and the new standard 3-prong side brush. It did not come with, however, the new black gearbox with bearings on the brush cogs that can prevent dirt from clogging up the gearbox over time.

With its elegant design, the Roomba 510 picks up dirt, hair and debris better than a broom. A broom picks up only the dirt you see. A Roomba cleans that up and all the dirt you fail to see. It cleans tile, hardwood, and carpet with ease, spending more time on carpeted surfaces to get out all the dirt.

Use the SPOT button to have the Roomba clean up any missed spots or spilled dry messes. Make sure never to use it to clean up wet messes as it will damage the vacuum motor and leave hard to remove mud from the dust chamber.

Although iRobot sells the Home Base separately, do not even think about getting one for the Roomba 510. Its design does not support this feature, as it has no electro prong to connect with it, and only has a DEMO button where the DOCK button would usually be on other 500 models.

The blue iRobot Ni-Cd battery with 1800-mAh that came with my 510 will last about 65 minutes before needing a recharge. That is enough for two average size rooms or a large room with carpet, but not enough to clean my whole house. I need to plug-in the Roomba and recharge the battery for at least an hour and a half before I can continue. Purchasing a supplementary APS battery for an additional 120 minutes of charge is a valid consideration.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I earned 'Val' for free as an incentive program with The Pampered Chef. She is awesome!!!! I chose her because she is not something I would ever purchase for myself. But for free, what the heck. Let me tell ya, this is the greatest machine in the world. The folks that created and improved on it should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for improving humanity.

I have a tri-level home. I pick one level each day. I turn her on in the morning and go to work and when I come home, my floors are clean. It's a miracle of modern technology.

My only complaint is she doesn't seem to always get the corners of my rooms very well. I have to get my had vac out and go behind her. But that's a small price pay for the rest of the benefits.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

Since I have Multiple Sclerosis, vacuuming is a very difficult task. "Roberta" was one of the best investments we have ever made. Prior to getting her, we moved into a new home. We had the carpets cleaned, then my husband vacuumed them with our regular vacuum. A couple of days later "Roberta" arrived, and we were shocked to see how much dirt and dog hair came out of this carpet we thought we had throughly cleaned! My husband's chore is to vacuum the family room, so he just pushes the button, and off she goes. My husband continues doing whatever he was doing. I also use it on my kitchen/dining room before using my Scooba. We have a German Shepard that sheds like crazy, and "Roberta" cleans the hair with no problem. As for the reviews that say it doesn't get into the corners,That would be like putting a round peg in a square hole. We decided to test how well she reallly works, so after using her, we used our regular vacuum. There was barely any dirt in the dirt cup. The best part is having one carpet being vacuumed, one floor being cleaned with my Scooba and I am in the shower and getting ready for the day. I can't live without my Roomba. Next purchase is the Dirt Dog. If you are on the fence about this purchase, do it, and see for yourself. You won't regret it.

Really love not having to drag a vacuum with a cord. I have two Discovey models. One had major problems right at the year mark, and received no satisfaction as far as warranty replacement. Now used for spare parts. The other is 2 yrs old and already replaced the battery. Neither very durable, and support was not very personable or acted like they could care. The product is great when it works.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

Robo has changed my life. I probably live in the ideal Robo environment. Small one floor ranch home all hardwood floors, doors to close each room off. I'd describe my home as generally uncluttered. I pick up or move as many small tables, chairs, ottomans etc so robo can clean. Doing this furniture pickup once a week is pretty easy. I devote 2 to 3 hours a weekend to all housework and laundry and shopping combined which is much less than I used to and I can have robo running while I'm doing something else maybe making a nice meal. I think I may love robo more than my husband. I take very good care of him -robo. I clean the bin, filter, brush etc every time to get maximum cleaning power. I still use my standard vac for missed corners and right along the baseboards but I am very satisfied with robo and always look forward to opening the dirt cup to see just how much robo has sucked up. Sometimes robo gets stuck under certain furniture but I'm aware of this and stuff towels under the problem piece to block robo or make other barriers. I will never go back to manual vacuuming again.

Robbi does a thorough job without ME having to break my back-I feel no pain & my floors are CLEAN! I wish Robbi could somehow clean its own brushes & wheels but I suppose that's the least I could do for a guy that does such a fantastic job. He should know NOT to go places where he could get stuck once in a great while but at LEAST he knows to clean under my beds, under my dresser & china cabinet! I couldn't live without my Robbi-I thank my children often for purchasing this product for me on Mothers Day 2008!

I like this cleaning lady I named Bertha

Cons:
Can Get Stuck, Does Not Clean Stairs
Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:
Busy household, Homeowner
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

Bertha is a busy robot. I push her button and she goes around in circles then takes off here and there for about 25 minutes. She is very quiet. She does better in the larger rooms, in my small bath she can't get by the stool, but she does a great job on the middle of that room. I move her to a new room when she shuts off. I go to the finished rooms and clean any spots on the carpet and wipe up scuff marks and clean by the stools, and then my floor work is done.

The description is misleading about having a home base. I can't even order one. I need two lighthouses. You are better off getting the 232 by the time you have to order an extra light house and the 510 not having a home base.

I got tow Rombas at the same time: 510 and the 400 series. I use both at the same time in a large 3 bedroom house. I have a Pug dog that produces a lot of hair, so my Roomba's are always making sure that my hardwood floors are clean without dogs hair.
I turn them on every other day before going to work, and empty the bins when I return home. I clean the brushes every other week...pretty easy maintenance comparing to a real vaccum cleaner.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

Like I said, I love our Roomba! I'd like to say it is a time saver but I love to watch the little thing scoot around so I spend a lot of time watching it. I help it out and pick up items it may have a problem with: the dog bed, the phone charger cord and things like that. Our house is mostly hardwood floors with several rugs throughout and the Little Guy has no problem with any of it. We do have one chair that it likes to get stuck on so I simply use the virtual wall to keep it away from the chair. Our Roomba picks up so much dust and dirt that I didn't know we even had in the house. Our previous vacuum must have really sucked (no pun intended) because we never picked up so much stuff. I love everything about our Roomba. If I had to pick one negative thing, it would be that it is loud, but it IS a vacuum and they are inherently loud. If it was quiet, I wouldn't know it was working. It is hard to look at the Little Guy scooting around and not think of it as another member of the family.. kind of like a little pet. BUY A ROOMBA! You'll love it!

Technically we have 3 Roomba'. My favorite is the Scheduler 560, which is what I thought I was getting, this time, when I ordered it with my U**** MIles. Whoops wrong picture. My ONLY gripe having to track this little sucker down and haul it back to the charger. OK, I'm lazy but then that's why I've got these things. We've got Cats, Dogs & Birds, all the machines do a good/very good job with the leaves, hair, birdseed and whatever else is on the floor. I'm looking for one more for the second floor.

Helps out but does not take care of all the cleaning. 26 cats and 4 dogs put out a lot of hair. Takes me about 5 minutes to clean the roomba. Doesn't seem like much time but that is the time to clean one room. I have a 510 and would never reccomend it. Get the one that wil schedule. It is fun tryiing to find Jim every morning.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I REALLY like my Roomba! We have 4 kids and a dog so our house (and me too) gets a real workout. I just set my Roomba and let it do its thing. It's much quieter than a regular vacuum cleaner so it's not very disruptive. If it's upstairs and I'm downstairs you can't hear it running. You might not want to talk on the phone with it in the same room, although you could if you really wanted to - it's about as loud as an air purifier. The dirt bin pulls out easily to dump, I like that it separates the dirt into 2 compartments. One has the finer dust, the other holds the chunkier dirt - good for digging out the occasional small lego.
It doesn't take forever to charge, and can clean several small rooms on one charge.
I think I'm most impressed with its ability to clean corners. I really thought I'd end up sweeping or vacuuming in the corners or along the edges, but no, I was wrong! It cleans under the beds, chairs, couch - whatever it can squeeze under - it cleans under things I don't even clean under (at least not more than once every year)! It can handle going over thresh holds and stops itself before it falls downstairs. It even tells you if it has hair or something binding up the wheels.
The only down falls I can think of is that it doesn't handle soft area rugs well, stiffer living room ones maybe, but not small bathroom rugs. It kind of bunches the rug up. This model doesn't dock itself either - which doesn't really matter to me - I carry it upstairs, out on the porch or kitchen (which is gated for the dog) so even if it did have docking capability chances are it wouldn't be able to get back to the base from most of the rooms anyway. It has a carrying handle and isn't terribly heavy.
It's definitely worth the money. If your an over-worked, over-tired Mom it's a handy tool. It frees up some time to do something else - like play with the kids, help my hubby or clean the refrigerator...

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

I thought I would give this product a try. I was really excited to start using it. I've found it works better in much smaller rooms than medium to large size rooms and the suction is not very powerful at all. My main bedroom is the room I'm in most of the time and so is my dog (Jack Russell Terrier). My dog likes to leave bits of rope bone or fuzzies and such all over and I thought this would help minimize that but it minimally picks that stuff up. Even going over a spot over 10 times there was visible "stuff" on the floor it could have picked up (that a normal vaccuum would have). So overall I'm a little disappointed but it isn't bad other than that.

It's so easy to keep my floors clean now. I plunk Gloria down and she keeps wood, tile, and carpets clean. I'm almost ready to get rid of the cleaning lady except someone has to dust the furniture and vac. the stairs.

I had heard of the Roomba but thought it was a gimmick and not worth even thinking about. But then I read several posts on an email list I belong to and went right out and bought Gloria. I've told all my friends about it and 3 have/will purchase their own. What a great idea! I only wish I had bought her much sooner.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

In general the 500 series cleans better than any prior units I've owned (3-"Red's", 1-Scheduler). This is the first generation I've owned which will slow down before touching furniture and walls. Earlier units used to "bump" obstacles with an audible noise. It is also better at not getting hung up on things like furnace grates and tasseled rugs. It is also quieter than earlier units.

I was quite excited about getting this unit and then disappointed by something that wasn't clear in the sales literature. All prior units I owned have the ability to dock and charge. This "feature" makes it easy to find when you need it next (as opposed to finding it hiding under the middle of a King size bed, sofa, or chest when it completes cleaning. There is a review posted here claiming this unit docks, and the docking "feature" is also covered in the enclosed manual, however this is the first unit I've seen which won't dock. There is no "dock" button, and manually setting the 510 on my 570 charger confirmed the two screws on the bottom are not "charging buttons". The 570 has two electrical squares used for charging the unit after it automatically docks. i.e. It can "feed" itself (anthropomorphic behavior) and be found in a predictable location.

I owned 3 first generation "Reds", a "Scheduler", a "570", and have given away several Roomba Robots as gifts. I feel the ability to later purchase a docking station (as I did with the "Reds") is an important omission and change in product offering for a long time customer. I'm disappointed this wasn't covered more clearly in purchase information, and is even hard to figure out from information sent with the unit. I expect better information from a company like I Robot.

After scouring this site I was able to determine from omission of information that the 510 does not have docking and the 530 does. I will be returning my 510 unit for a 530.

I haven't owned the 510 or the 570 long enough to comment about battery life, which is a problem in all earlier units. Longer battery service life (promise of battery lasting longer than one year) is what caught my eye on this one. Earlier units seemed to burn out the $70 battery pack in about 1 year. The 500 series doesn't appear to have a user replaceable battery pack like earlier units. This is another "feature" I'm missing after my experience with earlier unit batteries.

I like Rooma vacuums, but I'd think hard about docking before purchasing this one.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Roomba® 510 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:

This is a GREAT product! I received my Roomba today and let it do its thing. Dozens of people have lived in this apartment's bedroom before me and it seemed like I could never get all the mess from the prior tenants out of my room. But, I let the Roomba loose to attack the mess and found that I had no idea how much hair, dust and really bulky items (beads, hair ties, receipts) were hiding on my floor! Although this vacuum does not have a home base charger or scheduling system, it works great for my needs! I'll just turn it on before I leave for class and come home to a nice, clean bedroom. My roommates are uneasy about having a robot do our cleaning (they believe it'll get mind of its own one day), but I'm sure they won't have a problem giving up on the heavy, ineffective vacuum we currently own. The only reason I have to hang on to the upright vacuum is to get between furniture and walls that the Roomba is too wide to fit. If that's the only vacuuming I have to do for the rest of my life, I'm ecstatic! THANKS iROBOT ROOMBA!

My roommates and I are often too busy with school and work to clean our apartment. Roomba has eliminated one more necessary chore. We like it so much we named it Peggy Pick-Up. Only problem is, it doesn't get underneath our cabinets. However... this isn't a biggie. All in all... the Roomba is definitely perfect for us busy college students.

Thanks so much for such an awesome iRobot. I'm really looking forward in purchasing one for my home. Thank You. And Thank You Gloria Ito for our "Handy Chewbacca."

A golden retriever and a long haired cat--you bet I love my roomba! Three wishes:
1. I wish it would do stairs--we live in a three story house with a lot of stairs.
2. I wish the wheels were sealed better. The dust bunnies get into the gears. My husband takes everything apart--right down to the gears. As soon as it starts to bump, we know it's going to need that extra cleaning. Also, the spinning brushes broke off the first month. I was surprised at that. We will have to order new ones. I do use it every day!
3. I wish I had one for every floor!

I am shocked. I had it set in my mind that I wouls probably send this back- I didn't think that it could live up to all the hype.

BUT from the second that I set it up to clean- I WAS HOOKED !! I love my roomba!!

It is like a little human being. I, and everyone who comes over just love to watch it go to work...I have a golden retriever and a longhaired cat (lots of hair!!. It picks up so much hair!!!
I do have to clean the brushes after each room but I am glad to do it- I LOVE that it is picking up all this hair that I couldn't even see.
I do it after the maid leaves and I get more hair!
the only way that I would give up my roomba is to upgrade !! It is GREAT for all the dust and hair on the laminate and slate floors also!!

We have four grandchildren all under the age of 8 years who are at our house 3-4 times a week. We also have two dogs and one cat. Haven't tried this product on carpeting but my daughter says it is great for that. It is a wonderful time-saver for me and does a great job on my hardwood floors and marble tile floors. I work full-time and now have freed up some time for other chores or playing video games with the children. Definitely worth the money and I recommend to everyone!
