I can never keep a housecleaner. I have a big house, 4 messy kids, and I don't want to pay over $100 for a cleaning. With California wages, I could never keep them. Finally, I invested in a roomba in desparation because I had no house cleaner. To my surprise, my house is actually cleaner without the housecleaner now that I have the roomba and use it daily (my 11 year old said she thought the house is 10x cleaner, because it gets cleaned daily, not weekly). The whole house seems clean when the floors are clean. I find that people tend to keep the house more tidy overall when the floors seem clean. My husband and kids are actually helping use it, because everyone finds using it Fun and entertaining. I think it works best on wood floors, in an area with expansive square footage, and that's what I have. I didn't realize there was that much rabbit fur all over the house--a full cannister daily. I wish the filters could be washed by submersing in water rather than purchasing them thru the mail. However, any maintainence involving cleaning the machine, is worth my time, for the huge exhaustive effort it saves me. I bought a second for when this one breaks.
I use it on all my floors and carpet I liked it so much that I went out and bought my daughters one and I also own a 560 irobot witch is great I also tell other people about your product how wonderful it is
We bought this model as an experiment. WOW were we surprised!
We bought it for our preschool. It cleans, low carpets, wood and vinyl.
I'm amazed at how much it picks up! It seems very agile around furniture. It is much gentler when it "bumps" something then turns around. It is AMAZING! Can't wait to buy more so we can get the whole school done quickly and have one or two at home too!

I have a 530 at home, so when I was at a store and found an excellent deal on a 400 series, I couldn't resist. The only problem was I didn't really need another one for my house... so I decided to take it to work and see how it would do. The catch -- I run a BMW / Mercedes repair shop. To my amazement, little patty does great. My only complaint is that he isn't compatible with the virtual walls from my 530, so he often runs outside when the bay doors are open. I'm afraid one day he will get run over in the parking lot. Otherwise he's great! I've made believers of the other guys in the shop.
I wish it did the stairs! Can't wait till they come out with one for that :)
I used ours only to tidy up in between vacuums on our wooden floors. We do not have pets and very little dirt. We used it maybe once a week, but a little over a year the battery died and we would have to replace it so the cost of the battery is almost the same cost as a low end new one. I enjoyed how it went under the furniture and actually talked anout five other people into buying the product before the battery died but now I can no longer reccomend it and feel guilty about recommending it to my friends.

My husband gave me this for Valentine's Day and I love it! I work full time and with the kid, dog, cat - well, I just can't vacuum every day but I really should. I will let Charlie loose on my lunch hour and come home and the vacuuming is done. I have hard wood, ceramic, carpet and throw rugs (no fringes) all in one open floor area and he handles it with no problems. He has sucked up a shoe lace once but he beeps a distress tune and if you rescue him he will be ready to go again. He rarely get stuck and once you realize what get him stuck you can move it out of the way. He is powerful enough to suck up legos (to the amazement of my 7 year old). Unlike my upright vacuum he doesn't get things wound up in the system - once it feels a problem it stops sucking up and you can easily remove a shoelace. It vacuums over the throw rugs which amazes me and if it bends the corner of the rug over it backs up and moves away from the rug. It is great on pet hair. To be honest, I didn't know my house was so disgusting. I ran the upright and then the rumba and still filled the chamber. I have recomended this to EVERY single person I know.
My apartment has never been cleaner! Not only does it do great at keeping my floors clean it also encourages me to keep clutter off the floor and in thier proper places. I use it about four times a week in various rooms. I don't let it clean the entire house in one running it gets confused and misses areas. Its easier to confine it to one or two rooms.
Maintanance for roomba is no worse than any other vaccuum, I clean the brushes and empty the bin every few weeks.
It doesn't do very well on rugs. It always gets caught up on the litter box mat. It only works if i start it on the mat then block it off after it cleans it. It is great at picking up litter, cat fur, dirt, anything else I leave on the floor.
The noise doesn't bother me- it is much quieter than a standard vaccuum.
My cats are not afraid of it at all. If they are sleeping on the carpet it will bump into them and keep on going. They don't even get up- or they will perch on the couch and supervise as it cleans.
I wish I had bought it YEARS ago. I will be buying the rest of the roomba robots soon.
I bought the roomba because we can not keep ahead of the pet hair and dirt the critters drag in. Along with the kids that refuse to remove there shoes our floors were terrible. I had my doubts that the roomba 400 would be able to handle it. Boy was I wrong. I run it twice daily in the living room and kitchen. I can't beleive how nice the floors look. I can't remember being happier about a purchase. I love the thing!! I am going to upgrade and continue to upgrade and use products untill I have the whole collection!! I would strongly recommend these products to anyone!!

its to maintain rooms but not powerfull enough. still need touse a regular vac.
Used this the Discovery and the Floor Washer daily on 1300 square feet of space. All three units broke after six months of use even though I cleaned them after every use with dental tools and compressed air and had to be replaced. The batteries all died after 100 or so uses as well which is heartbreaking considering the cost of replacement.
The Roomba's work great while they function but they break too easily. If they could make them more durable it is the best idea and item ever. But the cost is too high for the lack of endurance.

My Roomba came free with the purchase of a Scooba and I didn’t expect much. I continue to be surprised at how well it works. I have six cats and Roomba is amazingly efficient at collecting cat hair. I run it at least once a day upstairs where I have hardwood floors. I just start it in the morning before I go to work and empty it when I get home. I was worried that it would upset my cats and sure enough at first it did. Now they are used to it and in fact stand right in front of it when it is heading their way.
There are a few problems and I look forward to being able to afford a new 500 series model to solve them. 1) It doesn’t cover enough area 2) It gets stuck 3) Takes too long to charge 4) Only works well on hard surfaces –not carpet

My wife and I are very busy professionals, with a large home, a sizable office, and two dogs. We have Roomba Schedulers at home and at the office. The home 'bot has the pet hair upgrade. These things are GREAT! They clean very efficiently and effectively!
They work well, IF they are maintained. This takes some time, but generally less than 10 minutes. If you have a dusty (or hairy) environment, do it after every use. Unfortunately the manual does not tell you everything you should do. Clean EVERYTHING in the machine. Remove the brush and beater, clean them and remove the yellow bearings and clean behind them. Be obsessive. Use compressed (canned) air and blow out every crack and crevice (including the filter and bin). Dust gets into everything in the machine. Make sure the edger brush rotates freely. Take it off and clean under it if necessary. I use canned air, screwdrivers, small pliers (to remove bearings), scissors (to cut hair), tweezers, the pet brush tool, paper towels, my fingers, a small wooden stick (carefully)and a large trash can in a well ventilated area. I have no problems. Oh, and thanks to the Roomba service rep who talked me through the first cleaning.
It a (dirty) jungle out there!
I got the Robot at a great price, wish it did'nt need so much matience though, but hey it does vacumme for me i can't complain. Is kinda loud though, best to turn it on when your not home. Some times it can be fussy like sometimesit does'nt want to go or says its charged after being plugged in all day then i start it and then it says its not. Usally plugging it back into the charger for a couple hours does the trick to fix it. It does get everywhere and does AWSOME on pet hair. I mean its incredible the amount of pethair it gets.
Bert and Ernie are the best thing before Sliced Bread. My wife got me a Scooba and a 400 Roomba for Christmas. We enjoy everything about them and have a great time trying to imagine why we waited so long to do this!
I use it every day, i have it scheduled to run every day about one hour after i leave home but those days that i am home it is set to run about 11am so i can get some sleep in. The only problem i find with this particular roomba is sometimes it does not fully dock itself onto the home base. i have had this model for over two months and in that time i have had to readjust it four times so that it will charge its battery. i guess it is mainly how the carpet sits there. Oh well... I also have a bad back and just bending down to empty the roomba is difficult BUT a thousand times better then running something bigger. And i think this model does just as well if not better than a heavy duty upright vacum. I'm definatly thinking of buying the 500 model for my parents. and maybe the dirt dog for my brother.
I asked for this as a Christmas present and was delighted that my best friend complied! This is the greatest gift. It's the gift that keeps on giving every day, all year long! It saves me time and energy. I love to keep a clean house, but it's hard because I work full time, I have three dogs, a boyfriend, and a mom at home with me. So I need all the extra help I can get! My "Jeeves" is a real life-saver and he is SO easy to use! I was so amazed by his technology - I just would sit and watch him clean for me! Trust me - use it once and you WILL wonder how you could have ever lived without one for so long!

I love my Roomba. My son has allergies and it gets the dust in corners, under the bed and every where you miss with a broom or can't get daily with the vacuum cleaner.
I have 4 cats and my Roomba sucks that hair up like you would not believe. I constantly charge, use, charge and use. I love it.
Take the roomba challenge. Clean your house like you normally would and then turn it on. I love it. I have not swept my kitchen in 2 weeks. I don't need to anymore. Thanks Roomba....

I don't have any carpet in my house - only hardwood floors and linoleum. My problem is that we have a German Shepherd who sheds a LOT and I HATE vacuuming every day to keep up with the fur that gets everywhere. I hadn't vacuumed in a few days, and the Roomba had no trouble picking up the pet hair and other assorted bits of dirt etc. I found that it provided good results in about 20 min. per room (the manual recommends 45min for best results), and although the manual said it would only run for 60 min per charge, it was still going strong after 95 minutes. I think the Roomba is the best invention EVER!! I'm absolutely thrilled with it and it was worth every penny!
The only things that need improvement are:
1) Noise level - Hopefully in time, they'll come up with a quieter model, but it's definitely not as loud as my old regular vacuum cleaner...so I love the Roomba anyways.
2) I wish the filter was washable, rather than needing to order replacement filters periodically.
3) I can vacuum my entire house the old fashioned way in about 45 min.... hopefully future models can vacuum the area more quickly than the Roomba 400....I figure it would take about 2 hours to vacuum my entire house with the Roomba....still better than doing it myself...but a long time to hear it running
Again, despite the above 3 points, I still LOVE my Roomba 400. Bottom line: BEST INVENTION EVER!!!
I LOVE MY ROSIE!! Charge her up, push a button, and sit back and watch! Very low maintenance required.
We got this Roomba free with the Scooba. I didn't think it would be very effective since it is the base model but it scuttles about cleaning everything in sight. It made a fine job of hardwood and tile floors and picked up a lot of cat hair from under sofas etc. It was not able to climb some of our thicker rugs but it hopped over the thinner ones just fine. It is completely hassle free and definitely exceeded expectations.
I have an apartment, with tile. I hate sweep instead I vaccuming, but it was exahusting. Now I just set my Robot to go in a room (usually I shut him in someplace) and when I hear him beeping, it's done! I have a cat, who shed a fairly large amount of fur, and my Robot has no trouble at all. The Roomba clean my floor so amazingly and now I can walk barefoot in my house. I love it!!!!
I have a multi story home with a sunken living room and Rosie does a great job where ever I put her. I have learned the two places she gets stuck so I place barriers in her way if I leave her "unattended". She has enough run time to do one floor at a time, so an overnight charge has her on the job the next morning! Her sister, Scoobi the floor washer, does a fantastic job on my tile kitchen and bathroom floors.
although the bin fills in half the area the dog roams, I catch up on technical reading or house maintanence. Gold. retriv. is a fur factory.

I have a small apartment, with tile, hardwood floors, rugs and carpets. Previously I would sweep the floors, and vacuum the rugs and carpet. Now I just set Rover to go in a room (usually I shut him in someplace) and when I hear him beeping, it's done! I have two cats, who shed a fairly large amount of fur, and Rover has no trouble at all.

When a friend told me about the three iRobot machines he has, I thought he was nuts. Until he gave me one as a present. I'm amazed at what a great job it does. I work at home, and I've just been putting it in a room while I work and letting it do its job. I've found that I need to move things out of the way for it in some cases. But that takes only a minute. I have a quite large main floor (2400 square feet). I do a third of it at a time. It's wonderful! I don't have to get that bulky vacuum out any more. I love it. I'm thinking about getting the hardwood floor washing model now. That's a job I hate!

The Roomba gets under furniture, which is a big plus. It is simple to use and a huge time saver.

My Step-daughter bought it for me for Christmas and it is definately the best-kept secret ever! I wish I would have always had one. I have a dog and cat and am amazed that it picks up so much pet hair everday! It also fluffs the carpet and leaves those "freshly vacuumed streaks", as well as cleans the ceramic tile floors. It is great!

I live in an apartment where most of the floor is carpeted with a kitchen and bathroom with vinyl floors. The Roomba handles either surface very well. The threshold between the carpet and kitchen is a little high, so "Cam" did get stuck once while crossing over, but other than that my experience has been great. It covered the entire floor. The layout is pretty irregular to begin with and once you throw in furniture all around, it's pretty amazing that it covered so much ground and how nimble it was in tight spots. You'll have to watch the video for a better idea.

I have not vaccuumed the old fashioned way but maybe twice in the past six months since getting my Roomba, and that was just because I forgot to charge my Roomba! It gets the dirt even my big vaccuum can't. It is the best thing since sliced bread. But watch it around steps and loose articles like rugs and curtains!

I bought a roomba red two years ago. The model has changed because my red has three buttons on top instaed of just one. When it works it is a jem. I prefer it on the hard floor instead of the carpet.I used it almost every day and about every two months it had some kind of problem. Several times I returned it to the store and got a new one, once irobot replaced it with a new one. The irobot service was great but I am disapointed in the product, it seems that it can't remain in good working order with constant use. I have never had a home appliance need so much repair.I won't replace my roomba, because the cost and inconvience. If they were priced to be disposable that is one thing but when you pay over [$] dollars for an appliance you expect it to last.An example. I have a Kitchen Aid mixer, close to [$]new. I use it 4-5 times a week and have had it 6 years no problems! Maybe irobot should invest in better parts.Good luck, it's back to the dust broom for me.

It really works! It is an amazing helper when you are too busy doing 101 things every weekend. Easy to use, easy to clean and fun to watch. I love it.
