I loved the vacuum robot, until the battery went bad just shortly after warranty. The one i bought only had one virtual wall, I think two are a minimum (new models all have two).. had trouble doing odd sized rooms or anything with too much furniture or chairs.. Loved its ability to do carpets and go UNDER the bed and futon!
It also left some scuff marks on the walls (newer models hopefully dont do this.)

Let me tell you my story. I have the 416, I've had him for about 2 to 3 years. The ONLY thing I've done is upgraded the battery. That is it besides the cleaning of the bin and rollers. I have 5 children and 2 dogs. One dog is the hairest mut you have ever seen he walks and the hair just falls all over my carpet and tile then floats around. The other little one is always bringing in grass, leaves, and small sticks. Then there are my children, sometimes I do think they were raised in a barn. Well lets just say the dogs make less of a mess. OK back to the vacuums. I owe a Dyson ( the pet version ) had a HUGE fight with my husband to buy this very very expensive vacuum. I could have bought 2 of these roombas for the same price. It really does not do that good of a job for my needs (don't tell my husband though). My mother thought she would be helpful to me so she bought me 2 more roombas. She shops on the shopping channels on tv. She bought my the newer white one and the newer black one. These are the pricey ones. HATE THEM. They sometimes seem to just glide over the dirt that you can see. My old 416 picks up everything!!It picks up what you can see and what you can't. I am still amazed at the sand and gravel it pulls out of my carpets. I run that bad boy 2 times a day on different floors. The other 2 were not worth 2 cents, my dyson picks up better and that isn't saying much. The moral to my story is the old cheap one works the BEST!!!!!

I have a one floor house and when I first got the Robot, it would cover the main living area in one charge. Within 5 months, the battery life had dropped to 15 minutes. Customer service was very quick to respond, suggesting I reset the machine. That did not work, so they replaced the battery, although it was with the cheaper, shorter run version.

If you are thinking about purchasing a roomba- any kind. Just do it. I got mine 2 years ago and absolutely love it. Everyone who comes over always comments on our clean carpets. I also love it for my kitchen- I rarely have to sweep any more. My 4 year old twins love chasing it around! It isn't overly loud and it really WORKS!!! LOVE IT!!! I could not live without MY ROOMBA. I think I am ready to upgrade to a 500 series and keep this one upstairs.

I own a daycare that is opened 12 hours a day/5 days a week. There is not much time left for house work. I was hesitate to buy the Roomba ibot but am so very, very thankful that I did. I didn't think it would really work. I was WRONG!
I use it on my ceramic tile, hardwood floors and carpet. It is amazing how well it cleans. I also
own a lab dog that comes in and out of the house. With the Roomba it keeps all traces of the dog out of the house. This is a must for the busy housewife or houseman. I would buy it again and again. It comes well recommended. The ONLY negative with it is the noise it makes but I can deal with that.

I love my Roomba. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is that the battery is dead - well, it won't hold ANY charge. I just ordered a replacement battery and had a huge case of sticker shock. Otherwise, I love that it goes under the bed, dressers and couches. It's amazing how much pet hair wanders there. Wish it dealt with area rugs better and didn't get stuck there. Also would love a longer lasting battery -when it is charged - to do more than 2 rooms at a time. But how can you NOT love R2-D2?!?!

I use this everyday.I have it clean in the afternoons and I also have a Dirt Dog he works mornings.Yes I have birds that like to drop food and I have shredded paper on the bottoms of the 4 cages and some of the birds pick up the paper and use it for nest building so some ends up on the floor the the dogs lay near the cages for a free hand out and then the paper ends up all over the house so I need 2 maids.Rambo in the mornings and Hazel in the afternoons.I have more time to sew!I have extra batteries and keep them charged so when I need extra time cleaning just change the battery and on it's way.Just have to resend it's program to the unit for the next day.I love mine !

I fired my cleaning lady and bought my robot with the savings. I fell in love. Then I purchased one for my 82 year old mom. She fell in love. My sister saw ours and she fell in love. The only problem is that my mom's didn't last 6 months before breaking, my sister had it one month, and mine just broke short of the one year mark. Calling for help under warranty connects you to overseas agents that don't speak english well. As much as we love the idea, the product became something not worth the hassle.

We use the Roomba every day. We never realized how dirty our floors were. We have three Roombas and a two bedroom house. We keep one in each bedroom and the other one handles the living room, dining room and the family room. We love the product!
The only problem I had with them was the docking station would not charge the unit.

I really like this machine, enough to give it a nickname. I have a relatively small apartment and cat. It does a fantastic job of cleaning. I try to use it 3 times a week so there is not too much dirt (plus I am obsessive about being reasonably clean). It is noisy, but I can live with that considering it is pretty thorough. My complaint is that the last few battery packs seem to lose their capacity rather quickly and I can't afford to buy them every 6-9 months (So I ask friends to buy them for Birthday/Xmas etc). I do clean it after use, so I am puzzled. Regardless of the battery pack seeming to not be a good quality recently, I strongly recommend the machine if you like to be able to cook dinner and vacuum the floor at the same time

PS. This is my 2nd one! And tech support has been great with the few problems I've had.

When I first bought it, the wife thought that it was a waste of money, and it was "a flimsy excuse to buy a toy robot". It took her a while to warm up to it, but now she thinks its cute. It would save time, but when it runs I love to watch the thing go, and i have to watch it or it gets stuck on my office chair. Also it may make some noise, but it's not as loud as the old vacuum. IRobot, keep up the good work.

I love my Roomba. It's the only 'appliance' I was given as a gift (4 Christmas' ago) that I love. HOWEVER, the battery life is horrendous! I'm going on my 4th battery now...it first runs for about 2 hours...then you're lucky to get it to run for 10 mins. My third battery now only runs for an hour and does not fully charge. I hate to spend another $70!!!!

Works GREAT while it works. However, as this is the second Roomba we've owned and both of them broke in an unrepairable manner within 2 years of ownership, we're distressed that we seem to be 'renting' these things.

The first, the original Roomba, failed for an on-board computer malfunction. The second one, this model, failed for a stripped gear in the sweeper system.

Neither was repairable. We're required to purchase NEW units. This strikes me as something of a 'scam' approach to marketing.

I think it would be a GOOD IDEA for iRobot to establish a repair facility to deal with such issues.

As an additional item on this particular model, it seems to have difficulty negotiating rugs set down on carpet. It balks at climbing them. Treats them as a wall. Therefore, it seems to focus its efforts on cleaning the carpeted areas and failing to climb up onto the large—or small—area rugs that break up the previous owners carpeting efforts.

The original Roomba did not suffer from this problem.

I think it's a good buy. You can set it to run then leave. Perfect if you have the charging base. Some things to watch out for are it tends to get caught on loose power cords, strings\threads, cloths. Secure those things and everything is peachy.

We love this thing. I bought it for my wife for Xmas. I cant help but play with it somne weekends myself. IT does a much better job than a conventional Vacuum. You can even be outside sitting down having a beer while your little robot is working away.

Loved it when I first got it but just today I ordered my third one (only second one I had to pay for). They work great when they work but they stop working far too quickly. I did notice when my first one died the support people (they were great) had me do a "reset". When the replacement died I looked up how to do a reset and found out that you are supposed to do this every few months!!! That is not in the manual and based on the FAQ it should be!!! Also, the reset didn't work in either case - maybe it would have if I had done it every few months.
Now I have recommended these to many people and many have bought them. However, I will now be recommending them with the caveat that you need to find them at a discount to make up for the replacement costs after the 1 year warranty.

I recently purchased new carpet, it is a little thicker pile and my iRobot will not run on my new carpet. A technician told me that they sometimes do not work on thick pile carpet. I loved him up till now. Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you solve it.

I am SHOCKED at how much Roomba picks up. My house is approx. 80% hardwood floors, with the rest being either beige carpet or area rugs. I received my Roomba as a gift at Christmas and have been using it almost daily since. As the owner of a labrador retriever, I am also shocked as to how much pet hair this device picks up! Tonight, I started it up thinking my floors were practically spotless from the night before, and am appalled to see what it picks up! It's it absolutely amazing. WAY better than I'd ever imagine. It makes your life much easier, as you can set it to go and just leave. It really is a great little machine.

Use it for high traffic areas such back entryway from shop/garage, utility room and dining room/kitchen area. Has been great at controlling pet hair, just a bit of a hassle to clean. Has been good at this for about a year, then started getting stuck more often. The battery now loses charge within 20 - 30 minutes and doesn't complete vacuuming of the area. The price of a replacement battery seems pretty steep, about 35% of the original price of the Roomba. Undecided about recommending fully, would have to give a caution about the cost of batteries.

Lucky for me, this was my 2008 Christmas gift from my parents. I was never a big fan of using a vacuum, and to say the least, my cat was horrified of the big monster vac! So, it is official, I am spoiled rotten with this thing. I will only be using the big vac when absolutely necessary. So, not only am I happy, my cat loves to watch this thing go! It is not so loud and intrusive that it can't be used every day, so my floors now stay cleaner than they ever have. Thank you Roomba!

The only thing I can say is that you need to stop thinking about getting one and just get it! I'm garenteed that you'll love this thing the first time you try it. I mean all you have to do is turn the thing on and press one button. one stinkin' little button and you can just walk away. The roomba is ment to save you time. at first it wont wsave you time because you'll keep watching it. I got mine for christmas and I absolutly loved it. It got all of the corners and sides. It made my old upright vacuum look like an antique just sitting in my closet. I even did little tests in my room by putting down dirt and little leaves and such. I turned it on, presed the clean button, and left. Half an hour later, everything was gone. I looked in the bin and it was so full that I wondered how it kept going. I found everything I put down and more. The other thing is that I have a cocker spaniel and she used to run yelping when I took out the upright vacuum. She would hide in her cage shacking. I felt bad for her but when I used the roomba, she didn't even notice. All i'm saying is that you'll never use you're old vacuum again. If you are still skepticle, go to youtube and watch the HSN reviews. I love this thing so much that next, I'm getting a scooba and maybe a looj. Maybe even a dirt dog. THANK YOU IROBOT!!

We didn't vacuum often because we never 'got around to it'. Now, we got a round Tuit! Our battery died after 11 months, just out of warranty. It was disappointing that IRobot wouldn't even kick in for the shipping on the [overpriced] replacement battery! Other than that, we love it; it does a great job.

It may not do a perfect job but compared to the job I did, which was never, it is terrific. If you have a large amount of traffic, or kids that track in a lot of dirt, this may not help much. But for a single or couple of adults in a household, (with pets!) this does a more than adequate job. I turn it on and leave or close the door (so I don't care how loud it is). It gets stuck under furniture occasionally and doesn't seem to find it's way back to the base that often but those are small issues for me. The biggest pain is maintenance -cleaning the brushes- which I do every time I use it. I am VERY happy I got one. I've had it a couple of years without any problems.

I really like that the floors can stay free of dust, crumbs, and cat fur, without me having to vacuum everyday. You do need to keep the big vacuum around for a good deep cleaning every 2-3 months or so, and to vacuum dust bunnies near the ceiling (unless you dust yours). I like being downstairs doing dishes or doing nothing and listening to the roomba upstairs cleaning under the beds. I think the newer model is probably better- this one could use a bit more suction power, but overall, I really like it. I want a scooba! [...]

I loved this when I first got it, however it went dead JUST after the warranty went out. I don't use the roomba that much so it should not have died completely the way it did. I bit the bullet and bought the [$] replacement although I was not happy about it. Once I got the replacement, it turns out the battery was no good either, it only held a charge for 10 minutes. I did manage to get the company to replace the battery free of charge but I think that is because they were sick of hearing from me. So far the replacement and new battery are working fine, I continue to keep my fingers crossed!

I recieved this unit as a gift from a friend, and I didn't think it would be of much use.

Now, whenever we leave, we put the robot on and it sweeps the kitchen - much cleaner than an average human sweep.

It totally rocks. I not only would buy this, but we have placed others in our business, and they clean the floors better than people without the hassle of having someone sweep the floors.

This robot, with the addition of a self-charging base, effectively cleans my whole 1300 sq ft condo; I run it in the main room/kitchen one day, master bedroom the next, and guest bedroom the next. Lather, rinse, repeat, and it's 2x a week that I've cleaned. It encourages me to do so, as I can press "start" as I walk out the door to work. The Roomba, however, does get caught up on my area rugs (and one patterned rug confuses it -- perhaps it thinks the dark spots are stairs?), and it can get caught under my cabinets... so I just move my trash can to block the spot it gets caught on.

This device makes cleaning the floor as easy, literally, as pressing a button. I recommend it for anyone who's got the wherewithal to pick stuff up off the floor once a week and press "start."

I recieved my Roomba as a gift from my son. I don't think that I have ever been given a more perfect gift. He told me he wanted me to have more time to do the things I love to do so he got me the Roomba. It has has certainly given me more time. We have a very busy household of 4 with a dog and cat.
I like the way it gets under the furniture and into corners. It always does a great job.
The only thing I can say bad about Roomba is that lately it seems that it isn't keeping it's charge as long and it tends to get stuck more often.

I am like other reviewers, when it worked I loved it. It was a time saver. Though I am more thorough when vacuuming my house stayed cleaner with the roomba because it was used everyday. It also got under the beds which I do not. I loved it so much that I bought one for my mother and my mother-in-law for Christmas.
The downside I went through 2 in 18 months. The first one the company replaced because it was still under warranty. The second one they would neither replace nor repair.
For the price I expect it to last at least 2 or more years. I am strugglilng with purchasing another. I love using it but I don't know if I want to replace a vacuum every year. For that price I can buy a top of line vacuum and have it last.

I just set it and forget it!! My dogs HATE the vacum but irobot is their friend. It is quite I can run it and watch TV! I love the fact it just some how gets everything and does it so well. I can run my big loud vacum over my hardwood floors and turn around and I see stuff everywhere. The irobot does not leave anything behind. I really fought my husband on these things cause I though there is no way they will work. Boy was I wrong. I like alot of customers will never buy another big vacum again. The one thing I would say it just don't watch it because you may not think it can get everywhere. Just turn it on and go about your business. Every now and then you may have to help it out, ifyou have alot of stuff in a room. But it still beats the big vacs every time. Thanks for the closet space I now save!!!

Ramon has been very good to us overall. He cleans so I don't have to. This gives me more family time and less cleaning time. I don't have a sore back from all that vaccuming. Roman was great for a couple of years. Then the problem was the battery didn't stay charged as long as it used to. Roomba even sent me a new battery. (They are very helpful on the phone)! When I first got the new battery a few months ago it would vaccum for about two hours, cleaning many rooms. Now it is back to it's old ways, only lasting 30 minutes or less. It cleans great while it works but not enough "juice" anymore. I think Ramon wants to retire. I may upgrade to the 510 or another "younger" model. Hopefully their batteries will stay charged longer.

I think "Rob" is a fantastic addition to any busy home. It could use some improvements, (but that's probably why they came out with the 500 series). It does a decent job at cleaning carpeted areas and hard wood. I found that it got stuck on some of my thicker rugs, but overall a great product.

I really was excited about getting this model. It worked well on the most part for 7 months. The battery died very quickly and I wrote to find out about replacement of the unit. Instructions were sent but didn't work. We will need now to purchase a new battery which should have been covered by a warranty but wasn't. I wouldn't recommend this model.

Pros:
Derrick does do a wonderful job cleaning underneath furniture and saves me a load of time! I am debating on getting a second Roomba for our upstairs due to his efficiency. :)

Pet hair is not a problem for our robot, he cleans very well. Our beagle is a walking snow storm as he sheds only his white hairs (not sure how he manages it, but he does). Derrick gets turned on "Max" and then takes care of the entire downstairs (snow storm of white fur and all) with just a touch of the button! What's not to love?!?

Cons: (aka "what's not to love")
I've had a lot of trouble in the first year of ownership. I had to send him back the first day as his brushes ran constantly (without being turned on).

There have been little hiccups here and there with running Derrick. He is slower and runs out of charge a lot faster. I should mention here that I am one of those "constant brush and filter cleaning" owners, so it does surprise me to have these issues already.

We have had to return Derrick twice now due to problems that could not be repaired by merely resetting him. Customer service has always been amazing, but it's a bit of a pain to have to worry with returns.

I guess, overall, I wouldn't trade my Roomba for any other vacuum. The product's inadequacies are made up for by great customer service. I would, however, recommend getting an extended warranty as there seem to be some kinks in this generation of robots.

I LOVED my Roomba when I first got it. After a remodel I was left with a massive tiled kitchen to take care of. I loved that I could leave the house and when I returned the floor would be swept and the vacuum would be back on it's charger. I found it cleaned much better on carpeted floors, though (I still had to sweep along the baseboards and it sometimes threw debris instead of picking it up on my tiled floors). I had read some unhappy reviews about the battery going bad quickly, but the customers also commented that when they complained the company supplied them with a new battery and were told that Roomba was fixing the problem, so I decided to bite the bullet and spend the money. I have had my Roomba iRobot for a little over one year (just past the warranty) and my battery is dying. I noticed that the unit no longer goes back to it's homebase charger on its own (one of the main selling features), but just stops when the battery dies. It no longer will charge on the homebase charger either. I have to now plug it in at the unit and it gives me about fifteen minutes of cleaning time. Obviously they never fixed the battery problem. I think, after reading other reviews about Roomba's Customer Service, I will be better off sweeping the floors and manually vacuuming myself than investing so much money in another unit. I can purchase two brand new vacuums for the price of one iRobot.

I use this on Hardwood Floors & Tile Floors. This is my second Roomba in 5 Years. My first one lasted 3 years and ran great until the battery died. I called Roomba and they offered me an out of warranty exchange for a new at only [$] I thought what a deal. NOT, BIG MISTAKE this roomba has been nothing but problems the first one lasted one day then died, the next lasted three weeks then died, this one is now 19 months old and has given me nothing but problems from the begining. I have bought the newer ones as gifts and I know they work really well without the hassels of this moddel. I robot should trash this one as it is not worth it.

I had the same experience as others, with my robot not working, getting a new battery, etc and being told to just throw it away. Since I have trouble pushing a vacuum and sweeping, I purchased a new rhomba and then decided that as long as the old one was no good and had a new battery, I would try to take it apart and see what would happen. I finally got it to work and now have 2 in working order even if one runs out of steam early, and has no side brush. The screws come out of the side brushes and cannot be replaced, apparently. However, I do like the rhomba and would not be without one.

I used to own both Roomba and Scooba- got the set together after a friend recommended it. I used Munchie and Squeaky daily, I had hardwood and carpet and even raised the baby gates (for the dogs- no kids.) up high enough that Munchie could just breeze underneath them to the next room. They were like pets in our household, the neighbor kids liked to come visit and push the buttons to make it go! The dogs either ignored them roaming around or followed and watched them with interest. Before the iRobots I was constantly sweeping and vaccuming and tried every hardwood cleaner system but it was so much work and never lasted. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER VACUUM OR MOP IN MY LIFE. EVER! After seperating, who got custody of Squeaky and Munchie was one our biggest arguements! He got them in the end and I refuse to buy anything but a Roomba now.
The only downside is that occasionally Munchie would find a sock under the bed and stop until I rescued him... but I never lost socks under the bed!

I was happy with my roomba (scooba and dirt dog)for the first year - infact I know of six friends who purchased one based on my comments - however, after recently replacing a battery and having to have it re-programed the final straw came when I was told that I now have to replace the whole body [$]- even with a new battery just purchased([$]). I was told to use compressed air to clean out the wheel area and once I did that it still didn't work - Then when I called them back I was told that there was nothing else they could do (not even repair the unit) That I would have to purchase a whole new body. The unit I have is older and it still was costing [$] -They don't even give a discount to someone who previously purchased their product and who would want to upgrade to a newer unit.It seems to me that the company is aware of the problem and instead of fixing it at a reasonable amount they force you in to paying more....I have now spent over [$] for my sage unit that retails for[$] - It's too bad that the company doesn't back their product - I will now be telling everyone not to buy one [...]

We have tile floor throughout our house and Rosie works perfectly. After she's done, we send Alice (our Scooba) after her to wash the floors. My only wish is that the battery charge would last longer or that there were chargeable second batteries that we could swap out.

We have a very large house, so we've got very large rooms! Because of this, it really only cleans one room per charge AND I have to empty the bin every time it seems.

I've been using it for about a month and am satisfied overall. At first I spent as much time cleaning the brushes as I would have vacuuming! But, now I'm quick (i.e. not as thorough), so it definitely saves time.

The kids love it, so they want to clean their room so they can use it. Plus, it encourages me to keep those extra things off of the floor (like magazines), so that it doesn't try to suck them up. So, it's teaching me good habits!

Overall, it's not perfect, but it's quite reasonable. I'm a bit nervous from reading the posts that it'll break down in another year. If so, it's probably too expensive to just replace. But, if it can last a few years, I'd definitely get another.

I have 3 Robots, 2 have died completely and the brushes don’t spin any longer, I was told that nothing can be done.
I have one left and am waiting for this one to bite the dust also, however I will replace it because it saves me a lot of time.
I mainly use the one robot that is left in the bird room to pick up the bird seed that the birds throw out of the cage.
In the past I had one robot per room and love them when they worked.

I loved my Roomba! It doesn't clean as well as if I did it myself, but it does a good job and it gets most of the dog hair. It does take awhile to clean out (especially the front wheel on mine since it was an older model that didn't pop out), but I still loved it. That is until it died. It just stopped working, and I was told there is no way to fix it. I've only have it for 18 months and for the price I think it should last longer. The stand up vacuum I had before this was from the early 80's and it still worked fine! As fun as it is, it's too expenisve to be buying every 18 months. I will not buy a Roomba again [...]

I become more amazed every time we use our Roomba. Yes, it actually cleans better than our 5-year old brand-name upright, and is only 25% as noisy.

-PETS-
We have 4 cats who leave trails of litter all over our hardwood, forcing us to clean every day. When we step on it, it grinds into the hardwood leaving marks & scratches. But with Roomba running so often, this no longer happens.

-POWER-
The Roomba is so strong and thorough that it completely lifted two cat-vomit stains out of our carpet, something our powerful upright could not do.

-GETTING STUCK-
When it wedges itself under our kitchen cupboards, it actually raises its back end, forcing the nose down, then backs out. I have yet to see it get stuck anywhere.

-ISSUES-
But it's not all cupcakes and roses. One downside is the fact that the Roomba bashes into baseboards and our antique furniture, sometimes leaving marks. To stop this, I plan on glueing some felt to the bumper.

Also, with our overabundance of cats, the Roomba requires a thorough cleaning every time we use it. Long hairs (especially human hairs) get tangled around the wheels and side spinning brush.

-CONCLUSION-
Despite two issues, it is still better than I had expected. I'd almost go so far as to say it's phenomenal. I am an iRobot fan for life.

We have owned "Junior" for six months. We remodeled installing a lot of hardwood flooring. The Roomba has been great at keeping things swept and tidy. Skeptical when we purchased it, we are true devotees of this product. With each bin cleaning, we remain astonished as to how much it really picks up. We set it to run every morning as we leave for work. When we return home in the evening, the house is tidy and looks freshly cleaned. As we said before, "Junior" is the best kid we have (and there are 5 grown kids). He cleans up and then puts himself to bed. Our year old grandson loves him too! Until "Rosie" from The Jetson's becomes available, Junior will do just fine.

Got it for Christmas (upon request), my friends thought I was insane (normal girls ask for diamonds!). But this a Diamond in the rough!I have 2 cats and they shed, I work a full time job and do part time work, I hate vaccuming and I'm a clean freak.. I do a thorough vaccuming once a month and I let the roomba take it on an every other day basis. I can get roughly 3 rooms (kithcehn/living/dining) out of one charge. It's a bit loud, but I let it run while I'm watching TV, just TURN UP the volume.. it's less noisey on carpets. I love it! Hope I can say this 6 months from now!

Worked well for light-duty cleaning, but not as thorough as regular vacuum cleaner. But good for every day pickup. After about a year, the battery wouldn't hold a charge for very long. Now ours runs for about 15 minutes and dies. Doesn't even return to the docking station to recharge like it used to. To me, it's not worth spending[$]each year to replace the battery. So that's why I can't recommend it.

We bought our Roomba nearly 2 years ago and since then, my regular vacuum only makes appearances for stairs, upholstery, and drapes. We have 1 child and 2 cats, which means plenty of dirt and fur on the floor. Of course, I do not have time to vacuum as often as I would like, so I set up Robbie and let him go while I’m doing something else entirely. I come back and find the room is reasonably clean. (And I do mean “reasonably” clean. I have found that the robot can miss certain areas and needs to be run a second time.)

Pros: Robbie does a great job of getting under the couch. I mean, how often do you really move the entire couch to get under there? It also gets under tables, beds, and in some tight corners. It also frees my time to do other things. I no longer have to pull a vacuum around the house and break my back while doing it. Robbie is a gem during the holidays, when you need to vacuum daily to clean up pine needles. Going from carpet to hardwood floors is no issue for the robot.

Cons: I mention these only because they can be annoying. The overall benefit of the robot makes up for any deficiencies. You really do have to clean and empty the robot after each use. That can get messy, especially if you have a dust allergy. The robot can be noisy and loud. You really need to leave the room to answer the phone. My 18-month old daughter is deathly afraid of it, so we simply play in another room while it is running and that seems to be good enough for her. However, the cats do not seem to mind at all. Lately, our robot has been getting caught up on things that previously were not a problem. So, it does need a certain amount of “babysitting” to really get the entire room done. You need to be sure there is nothing on the floor that can catch it up, like electrical cords, long lengths of string, small toys, or light area rugs. Lately, any paper bigger than one-inch square has been getting stuck in a sensor, causing the robot to freak out. Also, for safety concerns, I would never leave the house while it is running. And of course, it would be great if it would do stairs, but we have to be realistic….

Overall, I love Robbie. I would happily purchase him again. As long as you keep up with regular maintenance, your robot will continue to work beautifully.

My daughter was afraid of the regular vacuum. I had to try to vacuum while she was asleep nd I'd get no break. But She loves the Cylon (note the glowing red eye while it charges). She dances with it (so cute), and puts her toys on it while it runs around. Now I can get the vacuuming done, entertain my daughter and get a break. She thinks of it as a playmate (this also gives our cats some downtime as well).
This has added the phases "Ready.", "Push that button!" and "Cylon" to her vocabulary.
We are forced at times to tell her "No the Cylon is sleeping right now". You have a wonderful product and it has added some humorous moments into our house.

There is nothing more satisfying than opening up the bedroom door to find the floor spotless and the roomba waiting the next job.
I have a beautiful white dog who sheds short hairs every second and my roomba picks them all up.
I usually pick up and shake out the small dor mats before starting because they are so light that they sometimes get rolled up by the roomba as it attempts to roll over them. And because of the noise level I like to close off each room for the roomba until I'm left only with the open concept kitchen. Then it is time to hit the on button and head out the door so that I can return to a newly cleaned floor. On ocassion I will find the roomba hung up on one of the floor registers that it ran over, but usually it is issue free and waiting for me to empty it of its load.
Regularly decluttering the floor means that I have developed better habits and this can only be a good thing. Having an invisible wall is an absolute must, it is just so handy. Sometimes I use it to 'protect' my dog within her own space (she barely puts up with it) and sometimes when the floor is really dirty I will section it off so that the roomba is focus on only one area. I think I may look into getting a scooba as well...

As a single mom to three school aged kids, I love this thing. LOVE. It is 3 months later and the kids still happily pick up their things/other things on the floor so that roomba can vacuum. They've given it sticker eyes and treat it like it has a personality. "Awwwwww... poor George needs to recharge... here, George... relax at your docking station." It's hilarious. It is very kid friendly. I pop it on while doing dishes after supper and it does a really good job. I only have to do a full manual vacuum about once a week. I can't believe how much fuzz/dirt/debris that it picks up every single day.

It is also great entertainment... we're becoming seasoned roomba gamblers. We'll each have our own colored bit of paper that we put in the hall. Then we turn George loose when it's time to vacuum and the first paper sucked up wins. It'll be the next big thing in Vegas. It's terribly exciting.

We're geeks.

I am jonesing for the scooba in a very big way.

Since buying mine, my entire family have become converts... except my Dad who is convinced that it chases him.... he'll be turned... he just needs the shop version & gutter cleaner.

I love the time Roomby saves me. Our family has worked him hard for almost a year, and he still is more thorough than my teenagers ever were! Bought a 400 Series Pink version almost two years ago December. It has worked perfectly until the past few months when it developed short run times. I've had to replace the battery, but so far, that's it. I thought I'd have to replace the battery long before now, considering I run it 4-5 times per week until it's dead. I have a German Shepherd, a Bulldog, & 2 cats, so the hair is a nightmare. The Roomba is the only thing that enables me to keep my home from becoming a 1600SF hairball. I love it and will upgrade to a Scheduler someday when my Roomba actually dies of old age.

I received this for a B'day present from my son. I was very concerned and worried that he had wasted his money. I was very wrong. Bob does a very good job for this family and my floors are much cleaner than when I was just sweeping the dirt and dog hair around. Miss Daisy (our 4 lb chihuahua) hates it however. I recently was involved in a head-on collision that left me in a wheelchair. Now I'm walking, but not well enough to vaccuum yet. Husband is a neat freak, and he does not have time to clean very much. We have 3 messy birds, and the Rhoomba is such a blessing. We got it as a remanufactured item, unsure how well it would work. We were both very impressed, and we are both so happy to be able to clean the floors again, after 3 months of not. Spot gets the carpet, and the linoleum, and I'm going to buy a Scooba, now that my husband sees how well the Rhoomba works, he was very surprised! It will be such a timesaver, when I go back to work. Kirk is the greatest edition to my household since my wireless router. Sure, October (my 5 year old tortoise shell calico) is still getting used to it, but my floors are practically cleaning themselves! I've seen complaints about loud operation, and sure, Kirk can be noisy, but when I think about it, it's not any louder than my hoover-saurus. In fact, it's much more quiet. My favorite part is that I can activate Kirk before I go out, and when I get back, my floors are vaccumed. The only problem with that is that sometimes, my floor is *too* dirty, and I need to empty the bin before it'll continue. I'd say that's the only leverage vacasaurus rex has over my cute lil Kirk - a bigger stomach and a bigger mouth (all the better to hear it with :( )

I bought my roomba knowing i didn't need yet another vacuum gadget; but I'm amazed with its performance. Roomba is NOT a gadget but a serious vacuuming device. Before i had my roomba i would vacuum the house if it was worth the trouble of getting out the vacuum cleaner; therefore in between my vacuuming sessions the house was dirty but not anymore since all i have to do is press a button and there goes roomba sucking up the dust. I bought the Roomba Sage as a Christmas present for myself. It works wonderfully. The only complaint I have is that the front wheel wears down to a knub and there is no way to replace it. I had to send the original back when the wheel on the first one wore down, but I did get a replacement in reasonable time. One thing to make sure of is not to use it on bare concrete floors. (I'd imagine the Dirt Dog would work better there.)

I got my Roomba at [...] on Mother's Day 2007. I thought I'd try it(so I kept the receipt in case I was disappointed and needed to return it). To help with the longivity of the machine I'm always sure to remove things that may catch in the brushes (rug tassels, pull toy ropes, etc.) Living in FL, we have sand on our hardwood floors that can scratch and remove the surface polish. Roomba picks up the sand, dustbunnies, dropped crumbs and most any other small item that my grandchildren drop. Today I started it and left for work. When I return this afternoon the floor will be ready to be mopped. I have been amazed with the performance! I really don't know what I would do without it now. I can hardly wait to get a Skooba!!

I have not pushed a vacuum since Mothers Day! At first I thought it was junk as it started beeping after the 2nd use and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Eventually I read the manual and discovered a Balloon was stuck in the brushes! It has since picked up everything and anything in it's path - from dust bunnies, dirt, sand and even an AA battery! Just where does all that dirt come from? This is incredible! I can't wait to get the Scooba!

I'm a wheelchair user. Trying to use a regular vacuum is practically impossible. This thing is great. I can easily move it to wherever it needs to go and let it rip. I really does a great job. Some of our furniture it at just the right height off the floor to cause the Roomba to get lodged underneath. We solved the problem by placing bumpers underneath the legs of the furniture to raise it up an 1/8 inch or so.

Now I don't have to listen to my wife complain about my messes because I can sic the Roomba on them. I'm a huge evangelist. I've been responsible for 4 of my friends getting them. They all love theirs too. iRobot should send me a t-shirt or something.

This has made our life a lot easier, we have 2 labs and they shed lots of hair every day. 1000 sq ft of hardwood floor. "Patrick" gets his job done every day. my allergies are clearing up too. Our other vacuum was too powerful and blew the dog hair around. The broom was a joke. Have had this robot for 45 days and it has worked flawlessly every day. I do the small amount of maintenance required every week or so. give it the flashlight test. before and after cleaning ( shinning a bright flashlight across the bottom of the floor )and you will understand why this is such a great product.

[...]. Tried it in 3 rooms today, and it did a great job. All rooms were thoroughly cleaned just 4 days ago, but it found a lot of dust and dirt. Love the fact you can just power it up, leave and come back with a cleaner room. Have hardwood, cork, and tile floors - works well on all. Plan on buying another one for the basement area.

This is a pretty nifty item! At first I was concerned about my cats and dog being scared of it, but now they just ignore it. It's not loud like a regular vacuum, and anything it bumps into it just gently goes around. The only issue I have with it is that when it goes from the hardwood to the area rugs, the fur clinging to the bottom gets wiped off at the edge of the rug leaving a halo of fur all around the rug. I still used my regular vac for the tough stuff, but I love this little thing! It's like throwing clothes in the washer -- things come out clean.

I just can believe how I can vacum with my dirt devil and then run the roomba and it picks up show much as if I didn't vacum at all. I am very pleased with my roomba. It finds dirt I never new existed.

Just used it for the first time. We live in a 2 bedroom condo with both tile and carpet floors. It did a fantastic job on both. Our cattle dog followed it around with her ball trying to get it to play fetch, perhaps that is a feature that will be added soon! I would recommend this product to everyone!

I can honestly say that the Roomba Sage that I bought beat my expectations. The model I recieved included the remote, and self charging base for a great price. I have spent a lot of money looking for vacuums that not only have good 'suction' but that can actually pick up long human hair without destroying the beater bar. In the first 20 minutes the Roomba ran, it picked up more hair than is on my head! The subsiquent cleaning on the bars is somewhat time consuming, but is a fraction of the time it would take to vacuum so well, and to clean up the hair on my floor manually. My carpet looks like new! It is amazing! I've srarted bringing it to my friends' dorm rooms just to have more chances to see it work its magic.

My husband got us this for Christmas. I love it! It really picked up the tree needles this year, and much more. I love having the free time to fold laundry and do other things without having to worry about vacuuming. I have laminate and tile and 3 bedrooms of Berber carpet. It works great on all of them. The kids got robot dinosaurs and I got "Roomy"...between the 3 of them the dog is about ready to leave home! :-)

I received my Roomba as a Christmas gift just a couple of weeks ago and it already has become an important member of my family. I have a 2 year old son and two dogs. Needless to say, my carpet needs cleaning constantly. This machine handles all of our light vacuuming needs and now I just use our regular vacuum once a week.

Got mine from Lowes. I was disappointed that it didn't come with the docking station, but I'll survive. I used it for the first time today. All I can say is WOW! I'm definitely impressed! Well worth the investment. We live in a new construction area and I'm cleaning constantly. It was so nice to not have to vacuum! I let it do its thing while I did my other housework. Once it was done, I just plugged it back in. It will be nice to be able to run it again later and not have to haul out that huge vacuum to get my floors clean.~~~~~~The only one that doesn't like it is our puppy. He's not quite sure about that "new pet".~~~

I just received my Roomba Sage. Before I left the house today I left it to charge and then went about my day. I got home and decided to give it a try. I was very impressed, overall. It moved around the room in a crazy pattern that at first seemed like it wasn't going to get the entire room. But it did an amazing job of covering about 99% of the entire room. I was amazed at how it went under chairs and seemed to keep going back until it got the entire area under the chairs.~~~~~~My only concern is that it doesn't seem to be as powerful as I would have liked. I seems to leave some cat litter behind. I now see that you have a Pet version and I probably should have purchased that but I didn't know it at the time I saw it on Woot.com.~~~~~~I guess once I use this one up I'll have to move up to that version.~~~~~~I still think it will make a big dent in my overall vacuuming, even though I will have to use my regular vacuum to do the deep vacuumiing.~~~~~~Thanks very much. I am sure the more higher end modells do a much better job.

Pick up all the clothes, shoes and other things lying around. Let Roomba go and the room becomes clean while you do the laundry. It's relaxing to return to that room and see it cleaner than when you left.

I love this thing...it cleans my house while I spend more time with my young children in another room. It picks up dirt from the carpet I didn't think was there!
