Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

The robot is a little messy and slow for gutters that can be reached from a step ladder. That's about 50 percent of our house. The other 50 percent need to be cleaned from the roof or using a 21 foot extension ladder. This 50 percent will be cleaned with the Looj from now on. It's faster and safer in these areas.

great invention but needs to be supervised which means you need to be up on ladder watching it work. Also, it has a hard time cleaning out pine needles. Otherwise works well.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

I would agree with all previous reviews. Each offers details I would like to see revised. I will add that I "trimmed" my rubber flappers about an inch (they were hitting the shingle over-hang) and added a saw-tooth cut pattern to the new cut line. Major difference in cleaning ability! I too, think that the auger needs some refinements, and maybe customization for various regions or environmental conditions. The nylon line tied to the unit is also an excellent idea! Remote works much better when it is in contact with the gutter. Sounds like I am picking the thing apart, but I will also agree - this thing is really cool! I would recommend this robot to anyone who loves gadgets. If you want something as simple to use as a spoon... wait awhile longer!

Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

I was very excited to find this product. I got a quote for $430 to clean out my gutters from a private contractor. I have a fairly large home with a dangerous roof pitch. The irobot worked very well and cleaned as I expected while going forward. However the antennae would hang on the gutter supports/straps while passing under in reverse. So I ended up having to move the ladder to retrieve it. I cleaned it, put it back in the box and sent it back to where I purchased it. So I just spent half a day doing it the old fashioned way and did not break my neck! Extremely dissapointed.

This product works great. I recently moved into my parents home and the gutters where a major concern of mine. One side of the house is very high and the house is located in a pine grove. Well this little robot works great. I read some of the other reviews and tied a string to the back of it, just in case it got stuck and it that was a huge help. It never did get stuck but I did not want to lose it over the high side. No problems what so ever just really clean gutters without the usual hassle. I love it!!!!

looj 120 takes on pine needles
By gutter rat from Bowen Island, B.C. Canada on 7/3/2008
Pros:
Cleans Effectively, Cleans long runs well, Long Run Time, Removes packed pine needl
Cons:
Antenae gets caught, Looses traction at times, Needs improved brush, Stops at ends of long run

Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

Purchased to clean pine needles out of gutters on my house in Canada. very high 32 ft. up and very long runs that are difficult to reach and costly to pay to have cleaned. Robot easily cleaned most of the gutters, but had difficulty with some packed with 2 or 3 inches of needles. Brush needs to have a wire or metal "propeller" put at front ahead of rubber flappers.. to kick up the needles so that flapper will kick it out. the nylon bristles behind the flapper are useless and foul the rotor by winding around the robots drive shaft. The robot antennae frequently got caught in the gutter strapping. I ended up tying the robot to a long parachute cord (nylon) that would trail out behind the robot as it moved foward cleaning.. and could be used to haul the robot back to base when it either got stuck or stopped moving. Very very important to tie off that robot because you can't recover it from a gutter 32 feet up and 60 ft. away easily. I also cut the antenna down to half its length and that largely stopped it getting caught. Still got its signal. Battery life was excellent, never failed despite heavy use. Occasionally the robot would flip over on its back, but was easily righted by reversing the flapper. This was due to heavy debris load in gutter, not a fault of robot. I think if you used it routinely and kept the debris level low, it would work perfectly. My gutters were loaded with debris and it still did an excellent job... cleaned them all but took a while. Maybe same amount of time as if I'd hired it done, but I have to say running the "gutter rat" was a lot of fun and the neighbor kids were totally enthralled. So.. I'd definitely recommend it. In fact I'm buying a second one for use at my Mom's house as well. Saves time, makes gutter cleaning a lot safer in my opinon, and its entertaining.. at least to a gearhead or geek. The robot needs some mods ... 1) a metal cross piece digger for front of brush, 2) remove nylon bristles at back of brush to prevent fouling rotor and stopping it cold 3) find a new antenna design.. built in would work.. embed it in the plsatic. Put another bogie wheel on the caterpillar to prevent loss of traction. Tread came off periodically. A lot of critigue I know, but this thing is close to perfect and will be great once end users help them "tune it".

Makes a difficult job a bit easier

Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

I would recommend the product because, ultimately, it did remove all of the debris from our gutters -- including pine needles, oak leaves, and a stick that was about 8 inches long. Unfortunately it got stuck on all of the gutter seams, requiring repositioning. Agree with previous posters who said that the charger should shut off when the battery is ready, or at least have some sort of indicator light.

Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

This item actually works pretty darn well! I bought it after worrying that the hype was better than the product, but it actually works! I have gutters in the back that I cannot get to, so this was a great solution. Its not going to be a miraculous, quick, result, so be patient. I had alot of debris, so I had to take my time, and stop frequently to let it do its job.
Ok here are the cons, well more of advice. The battery is confusing. You have to charge for 15 hours and have to unplug it as it wont stop. Also it doesnt say if you can plug it back in after use. I used it one day on the front, then a few days later, did the back so I didnt know if I could recharge. As a result, I began to run out of power at the end of my job. The more typical rechargeable battery with a light indicator would be good. Also it will flip over if you try to go too fast. But if you reverse the auger and reverse it, you can get it to flip back. Oh, and it gets stuck going in reverse sometimes. The antenna kinda makes it hang up, but you can work it out.
The remote control handle is kinda hard to get to attach. Once you get it attached, it is stable. But putting it back on while the looj is in the gutter is difficult. Debris gets in the slots, and makes it hard. Also once or twice the tracks started to come off, because debris gets on the wheel, and it starts to slip off.
The auger works well. The only issue is that there is a brush on one part, ( i guess one of the three stages) and it got frayed looking after one use. The bristles bent out. After I used it the first time, I put twist ties around them and let it sit and they kinda went back. \
I still had to use a garden hose to get the remaining gravel and dirt out, because it didnt get all of it, but for the most part it made a difficult job alot easier.
If you are thinking on buying this, I suggest you do buy it with these things in mind. Be patient, as it isnt a miracle tool, but its pretty darn good!

not good for fir needles
By JeremyVerified Reviewer from shelton, wa on 3/10/2008
Describe Yourself:
Homeowner
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

I live in western Washington state and my gutters contain only wet fir needles, often in various states of decomposition (black, stinky goo). This thing didn't really do so well for me. It would be nice if they sold an auger that is specifically designed for sopping wet needles. Perhaps something that would impale a higher pile of compact needles and loosen them up before flinging them overboard. Maybe a brush configuration that is more rigid would help expel the needles instead of just slapping them with the rubber thing on the auger.

I think the Looj has potential, and selling different auger configurations might make some more happy customers.

A good product to use

Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

This product works really well. My house is surrounded by heavy oak trees. This will get through the leaves easily. If there is debris it takes a little more time to slowly send it in. The only complaint is the charger will not shut off when the battery is full. Not very efficient. Otherwise this well worth the purchase.

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about iRobot iRobot Looj™ 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot:

The Looj is a great idea and it works well if all conditions are met. With the Northwest leaves and rain, there are some gutters that it just cannot clean due to heavy and wet leaves. It performed well on about half of my gutters, where it has lighter leaves and debris. If it had more power, torque and different auger options it could be perfect. I will use this as often as possible, it is a huge time saver on the gutters used...

The battery loading instructions need to tell about the recess in the top of the battery compartment. Placing the battery connectors in the recess inside the battery compartment, allows easy installation of battery. Excellent product! I need more leaves or more gutters! My Fall gutter cleaning chore just became fun! This thing works EXACTLY as advertised! Well Done!
