I have 2 young children, a cat, and my husband and I both tend to track sand or lawn clippings into the house. I bought the Roomba 4 months ago because I found myself frequently sweeping/vacuuming the kitchen (hardwood), laundry room (tile) and family room (carpet) floors. I love Roomba and have recommended it to several friends--and strangers. I have it scheduled to run 3x/week to keep the floors free of kitty fur, kitty litter, sand, dirt and food droppings. Very easy to use and it works very well. I clean it at least once/week to help keep it maintained. Takes no time at all.

The roomba is a good sweeper on the floor but carpets are another story. I explained it to my husband who thought I wouldn't need the vacuum any more by saying "It is just a broom not a vacuum, there is no suction power". The side brush gets tangled in my carpet tassels, it was not supposed to do this. As a result of the tangles my side brushes have broken off. Overall I like the roomba but I have to rescue it all the time and pet hair gets caught in the brushes so I constantly have to clean them.
