I loved my iRobot at first. After my fourth battery in about a year died, I packed it away until iRobot corrects this flaw. Either cut the price or improve the quality of the product. I love my iRobot but it has become a luxury that I can no longer justify. My home vacuum works just fine.

I would never buy another iRobot product again. My first battery started to go in 90 days. [*] For the price, they should offer lithium. This battery is a waste of money a environmental nuisance as they wear out very quickly

Wasn't to bad in the begining but battery only lasted about 6 months.
Way over priced for product and battery since you have to replace it so often.
I can't believe these companies can just rip us off like this. I would never buy
another one.

I love the dirt dog. Great for hard floors. The battery that comes with it is a joke. This battery works well, but for less than a year, and then it needs replaced.
Why is that? I know batteries run down over time, they all do, but this one seems to die sooner than most. Maybe when it sits on the home base, and whenever you touch it the battery is warm. Is the home base overcharging it? Maybe it's just needs a smarter charger? I'd pay for a smarter charging base if it meant the batteries would last 2-3 years... Oh well...

I'm very surprised as I read these reviews slamming any iRobot device for battery life. This is the nature of rechargeable batteries. For something that runs virtually empty and then fully recharges every day, anyone who thinks they should get more than 8 months of life on the battery simply doesn't understand how rechargeables work.
I have been fortunate and gotten a full year out of roomba batteries on occasion. (at present I have 2 560s, one 780, and two scoobas (the big one and the small one--can't remember the model numbers) If you're getting less than 8 months, then you're not fully draining the battery on a regular basis, and/or you're not charging it fully and then leaving it on the charger until the next usage.
For all those of you complaining about your dirt dogs, I'm in the market for a used one for my basement. I'd be happy to take them off your hands.

Our original Roomba died and was replaced.
Then I bought TWO more Roombas, ONE Scooba and also ONE Dirt Dog.
Batteries are DEAD in all FOUR in addition, TWO chargers burned up. Burned up as in melted.
Whomever makes the chargers and batteries should be FIRED.
As tempting as it is to put these units back into service, I will not pay any more of my hard earned money for this junk.

I own an early model Rumba and a Dirt Dog. Both have gone through batteries that will not hold a charge in less than a year. I bought two top end replacement batteries and within a year are slowly getting to the point where they won't hold a charge longer than 15 to 20 minutes. I don't think I will purchase any more.

My robot has served me well for 10 months, keeping my bare floors tidy from dog hair and kids crumbs and hair/toy accessories. But I was disappointed to see that a new battery was so expensive to replace, now that mine does not hold the charge anymore. I know have to consider buying a new product instead of investing a lot more money into this cleaner.
