This is a virtual wall that stops the roomba from leaving an area. This is NOT a lighthouse (only for models 780 and higher that can be used either as a virtual wall or to "do this room first").
Contrary to what someone else said, the virtual wall is on all the time, but my experience is that the light goes on only briefly when it detects the roomba is working nearby. Whether the light is on or not has nothing to do with effectiveness. The "lighthouse" models do this too. Confusing, but it is how they work.

Herb...needs to learn how to read specs. The website clearly states the differences between the different virtual walls. Herb is either illiterate or too lazy to look at all the data.
Virtual walls keep the robots cleaning where you want them and Lighthouses take care of Room to Room navigation but is only available in high end models. READ THE FINE PRINT ON LIGHTHOUSES!!

I ordered this thinking it was the kind that stayed on all the time but you push a button and it only stays on a period of time. For $10 more, you can get the one that stays on all the time with a switch on it. Don't order this one!
