iRobot Roomba® 780 Full Specifications
Let the robot do the dirty work.
Roomba uses a patented 3-stage cleaning process to vacuum carpets, hardwood, tile and linoleum floors on its own, automatically adjusting to different floor surfaces as it moves through your home. Roomba 780's cleaning features include:
- Advanced Cleaning Head: Designed with pet owners in mind, the cleaning head provides superior performance for picking up pet hair, dirt, dust, allergens and more
- AeroVac™ Series 2 Bin: Employs a powerful vacuum to vigorously pull debris and hair off brushes into the bin. The distributed air collection and clog-resistant design of the AeroVac Series 2 Bin optimizes vacuum effectiveness and dirt and hair packing efficiency.
- Dual HEPA Air Filters: Capture dust particles as fine as 0.3 microns, limiting the recirculation of fine particles and leaving fresher, healthier air behind
Clean under the bed and other hard-to-reach areas.
Roomba provides comprehensive cleaning coverage – vacuuming in tight spots, under and around furniture and along baseboards. Roomba 780 features:
- Persistent Pass Cleaning Method: Employs a back and forth cleaning pattern to apply elbow grease in areas where it senses excessive dirt
Every home is different.
Roomba maximizes cleaning by adapting to your unique household environment. iAdapt Technology monitors the cleaning environment more than 60 times per second, using multiple sensors (like cliff detection) and dozens of behaviors (including wall following) to clean your home. Roomba 780 adapts to your home using:
- Molded Soft-Touch Bumper: Cushions the contact made between Roomba and walls, furniture and other objects, protecting household items while it cleans
- Dirt Detect Series 2: Uses optical and acoustic sensors to find dirt and debris, performing concentrated cleaning in the dirtiest areas and ensuring the whole floor is clean
Less work for you.
Roomba knows which areas to clean – and those to avoid. Virtual Wall® Lighthouses™ confine Roomba in one room until it is clean and then lets it move into the next room, ensuring the robot methodically cleans multiple rooms. Roomba also charges itself, going back to its Home Base® to dock and recharge between cleanings. More 780 convenience features include:
- Extended-Life Power Management: Uses sophisticated power management software to deliver up to 50% longer battery life than previous Roomba generations, ensuring hundreds of cleaning cycles under proper use

Comments about iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:
My wife was initially sceptical but soon learned to use it effectively. We have since bought a Scooba to wash the non carpet areas. Roumba is scheduled twice a week for the living and dining room and is placed in the bedrooms and family room when needed. It makes cleaning of the hair shed by our Papillon something the robot does. The brushes now need replacement, pretty good for the almost daily use. We still use the central vac for large messes and crevice cleaning but would not give up the Robots.

Comments about iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:
I've owned this machine about six months now, and altghough deferring my initial review unitl I saw it's capabilities, I can now state that this is a wonderful tool, if one remembers a few things:
1. Clean it at least every other use if you have a pet, more often if your pet, like mine, is a very long haired cat guilty of "vaccucide" in the past. I fully appreciate the fact that the cat hair is the cause of the extra cleaning. I use one of those small 1 1/2 gallon shop-vac units, that does an admirable job cleaning it.
2. Block or remove some obstacles. Watch it operate. In my house, I have one of those floor-stand electric fans with a 24 inch round base that tapers from the floor to about 1 1/2 inches high at the pedestal. "Harvey" gets 'high centered' on this, and ends up shutting down and calling for help, but not often. Electrical cords don't appear to present a problem, in fact he once unplugged my cell phone charger, and dutifully brought it to me, undamaged.
I've actually timed this machine, and on rare occassions, it will run a full hour and forty five minutes on one charge. Of course at the end of that it's starving and looking for 'home'.
I am retired and disabled, confined to a power wheelchair. Trying to vacuum, using a conventional machine, with 2 bad legs, and 1 bad shoulder is just as difficult as you imagine it is.
This machine has been wonderful. Living in Alaska, with all the ice, snow and road salt tracked in, it's done a remarkable job, and should I find need to replace it, I will most definately do so.
By the way, the name is just a name, it doesn't 'bang' the walls.

Comments about iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:
I bought my 780 in the hopes that it would save me time from vacuuming - which it truly has, 10 fold!! I set him to clean while we are all away at work/school and come home to a perfectly vacuumed house. Although I must admit I only use BOB during the weekdays to keep the pet hair (Labrador) managed on our floors. On the weekends I use my "other" vacuum to pick up the finer dust that BOB misses because of lack of suction power. That being said he does exactly what I needed him for.
Bob is not without maintenance though. About once a month I take him apart. Remove the main cover plate and vacuum his inner parts. Darn dog hair gets in every nook and cranny and builds up under the cover plate like a mat. Its nasty and cleaning the brushes/rotating heads is a definite necessity.
In my perfect irobot world I would like to see a sealed bottom cover plate that won't allow dog hair to get into all the nooks and crannies. But I have to admit it does a pretty amazing job.
I'm a believer in the value of my time, and the amount BOB saves me in vacuuming, I will definitely buy another.

Comments about iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:
Very good.
I have German Shepherd dog (sheds all year round) and two Persian cats - and on the 3rd day after vacuuming house looks like a zoo.
With this Roomba 780 I can do general vacuuming once in two weeks - and house looks more than acceptable clean in between.
Only one concern - this thing is loud - so if you work from home - it'll be annoying..
Also, really spend 5 minutes to watch this video - maintenance is really important:

On my robot I've got front wheel stuck because of dirt (I didn't knew that wheel axle(pin) was removable) and it damaged the caster - but iRobot sent the replacement - excellent customer service!

Comments about iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:
I bought this for my Sister-in-Law that had a baby just learning to crawl and two dogs that shed faster than she could keep up. She was so amazed at how well it worked by evidence of no dog hair on her babies clothes, I decided to get one for myself. I have two dogs, one with needle like hair that burrows itself into everything and the other dog that doesn't just shed, but molts. I programmed it to deliver it's goodness every night at midnight and woke to a clean house and a full tray or hair and dirt I hadn't even seen! I have to admit, I was taken aback at the price, but after seeing how effective the machine is, I fully believe it is worth every penny. It's been 8 months now, and it still cleans just as effectively as the day I bought it. Now that the house gets vacuumed everyday, I no longer have a cleaner and that adds up to lots of savings!!

Comments about iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:
I had no idea how dirty my "pristine" home was before purchasing "George" one year ago.
He is used two or more times a week. With the exception of noise, there isn't anything detrimental to be said. Living here in the Sonoran desert it's an ongoing battle with dust.
When George first cleaned my carpets I was astonished by the fully packed debris bin. Now, it is great fun to let George run in front of my friends and then show them how much filth he has collected from what they viewed as my very clean home.
I still get the biggest kick out of doing something relaxing while George is working.
Even if you think you might possibly like an iRobot I recommend you give it a try.

Ive seen these robots for many years and never believed they could live up to the advertising. They do!!!! Begins cleaning everyday at 8am then puts himself away. I can't believe how much he picks up when vacuuming every day. With 2 chihuahuas he's a lifesaver (not to mention my back)great device. Now I want another for downstairs. Thanks Irobot.

Comments about iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:
I have had Buddy for about a month now.. I call him Buddy because he has been so helpful.. I have a large boxer who sheds little pokie hairs all over my house and has been excellent at taking care of them. I used to sweep daily and there would still be hair all over. When i got buddy I ran it every day for a week now he runs himself everyother day and i get 1/4 of the hair.
It runs fairly quiet i can clean my entire house while he runs. I just turn on the tunes and its great. He cleans great, i have a few rugs and mats and you can see the entire surface is covered when he's done. He even picks up stray dog crunchy food 3/4 inch wide..
It did take a week of strategically placing the virtual lighthouses to help buddy get through my house due to my floorplan and a long hallway but he gets everywhere.
Has gotten stuck a few times, got behind a door and locked in the office, had a fight with the swifter vac.. found him raming it in the closit one day.. but overall not bad things, just typical things one could expect from a robot house vac.
Overall saves me time and lets me clean a lot quicker
One con is the touch sensors are really sensitive and the dog has turned him on a few times .. witnessed ... and changed things /times and he went off at 4am one day... husband was not too happy but... overall
great.

Comments about iRobot Roomba 780 Vacuum Cleaning Robot:
I have owned the 780 model for a little over a year now, and it is fantastic! I schedule it to run three days a week, and it collects a fair amount of crud even though I am very clean and live alone. My floor plan has three bedrooms (12'x12', 12'x12', 14'x17'), a common area (10'x10'), and two restrooms that I have virtual walls protecting.
I recently bought a Miele upright, and vacuumed the second floor (where I have the robot stationed), then looked in the bag to see how much the Roomba missed. Final answer: not much. The bag was almost as clean as when I started!
The only negative that I have is that the robot has a tendency to get stuck at the top of my stairs every once in a while (about once every 10 cleans). One of the wheels falls off the edge when it approaches at the wrong angle, and boom, vacuum session over! So far, it has never fallen off the stairs, and I just move it back to the charging station when I get home.
The other recommendation that I will make is that someone interested in this product pick up some good, low-self-discharge NiMH C batteries and a good, computer-controlled charger. I was using Energizer batteries for the virtual walls, but they have a low capacity and a lousy, timer based charger. I was recharging once every other week. Now that I have good batteries (4500 mAh), I am charging once every six months.
