iRobot Scooba® 450 Full Specifications

The Scooba Three-Cycle Cleaning Process
Based on professional-grade floor cleaners, the revolutionary new Scooba Three-Cycle Cleaning Process has been redesigned from the ground up to clean hard-surface floors three times better than ever before. Here's how it works:

  • Cycle 1 Sweep and Pre-Soak: Scooba sweeps up loose dirt and debris and puts down a thin sheen of water or iRobot Hard Floor Cleaner to soak into any stuck-on messes.
  • Cycle 2 Scrub and Squeegee-Vacuum: A scrubbing brush spins at over 600 RPM to remove grime while the squeegee vacuum suctions dirty water off the floor.
  • Cycle 3 Squeegee-Finish: Scooba ends with a final squeegee-finish cycle.

Use Scooba 450 anywhere you would use a mop and bucket, including tile, linoleum, vinyl, marble, slate, stone and sealed hardwood. Unlike a mop that reuses dirty water, Scooba uses fresh solution from start to finish.

Easy To Use
Just fill the robot and press CLEAN. Scooba 450 is easy to use from beginning to end:
  • Easy To Fill And Empty: Fill and empty the tank in seconds without fuss.
  • Two Cleaning Cycles: Choose from a full 40-minute cycle or 20-minute cycle for smaller spaces.
  • Cleans With Water Or iRobot Hard Floor Cleaner: Use water or iRobot Hard Floor Cleaner for a deeper clean to wash away bacteria.
  • Avoids Off-Limit Areas: A Virtual Wall® keeps Scooba in rooms you want to clean and out of ones you don't.
  • Compatible with Roomba® Accessories: Scooba 450 is compatible with Roomba Virtual Walls, battery charger and batteries.
  • Talks To You: The information button and audible cues give you insight into robot behaviors.
  • Simple To Clean: Removable cleaning head makes for easy access to brushes and squeegee for a quick clean by hand.

iAdapt® Responsive Navigation Technology
Using iAdapt Technology, the advanced system of software and sensors used in Roomba, Scooba 450 offers complete coverage of every section of floor. iAdapt has been modified for wet floors to optimize the timing between recurrent passes on the floor.

Scooba 450 makes multiple passes over every section of floor to ensure the most thorough coverage possible. Scooba 450 cleans rooms up to 300 square feet in one cleaning cycle.

Scooba 450 cleans dust and dirt right along wall edges. The robot's light-touch bumper system minimizing impact with walls and furniture. The soft-touch bumper has a non-marking strip to prevent damage to furniture and marking of walls and baseboards. Smart, built-in sensors help Scooba avoid rugs, carpets, stairs and other drop-offs.

Comments about iRobot Scooba® 450:

LOVE my Roomba, ordered this. Pump went out, can't get parts. In fairness, I bought it used, BUT I'd like to be able to get parts. I have back issues, and don't want to have to mop. I also have an open floor plan, so the Scooba needs to stay in an area before moving on. It does not, it wanders all over the place, does not pick up it's dirty water, leaving it all on the floor.

Fundamentally flawed

Pros

Cons

  • Gets Stuck Easily
  • Long Charge Time
  • Misses Spots
  • Noisy

Best Uses

  • Hardwood Floors
  • Small Rooms

Comments about iRobot Scooba® 450:

The Scooba 450 could be a good floor cleaner, and it has indeed cleaned my floors spotlessly on several occasions, however its design is fundamentally flawed. Unlike previous models, iRobot opted for a 3-pass cycle where the robot cleans the room, then washes and finally squeegees dry - in contrast to previous models where all of this was accomplished in a single pass.

This causes two problems:

1. If you live in a hot, dry climate, much of the water will have already evaporated by the time the robot comes around to dry the floor. I bought the Scooba in the winter and my opinion of it was better until summer came around. I try to combat this by running it early in the morning or late at night.

2. Whether or not the Scooba cleans your floor well is entirely down to random chance. This is because it is designed to bounce off objects in the hope that it will eventually cover the entire room, which means that the robot has no idea where it has been and frequently neglects to dry areas that it has washed, leaving the dirty water to dry. I have a dark floor with skylights, meaning that any dirt or marks on the floor are highly visible, and often after running the Scooba the floor actually looks dirtier than when I started.

The only way to get around this is to make it wash the floor over and over again (after a full charge each time of course) in the hope that the random nature of the algorithm eventually covers the entire floor.

I would imagine the Scooba works brilliantly in an empty room situated in a cool, humid climate, but I would definitely not advise it in a dry climate or any moderately complex room.

I really wanted to like the Scooba because the idea of having a hard floor cleaning robot that doesn't require pads is extremely appealing. If iRobot can release a new version with a 1-pass cycle I would happily give it 5 stars, with bonuses if they can make it quieter, have longer battery life and make it more intelligently navigate a room.

    Comments about iRobot Scooba® 450:

My kitchen gets a lot of abuse, and I hate to mop. So it was pretty filthy when I received my Scooba 450. Session #1: See Service Notes below. After the failed session #1, I did not have the heart to move all the big furniture in the kitchen again, so I hand scrubbed just those areas and got them clean, then moved the furniture back in. But I intentionally left the high traffic areas alone so I could see how well the Scooba would do. Session #2: After the software fix described elsewhere in my review, I set the Scooba down in the middle of the kitchen and told it to start. It seemed to concentrate along the walls more than the center of the room, and did really well there. It does not seem to get right up to the walls due to the design of the robot. So I will occasionally have to hit those areas with a mop (very occasionally). I watched it hit the high traffic areas in the center of room several times. At first, I thought "It does not look like it is going to get it clean." But then I noticed that every time it went through, it took a little more dirt off. I should add that there was weeks of ground-in filth in the center. At the conclusion of the mopping session, I was pleasantly surprised at how much it had actually removed. I expected I would have to do a thorough cleaning by hand to get it all. But it got a lot more than I expected. I decided to do one more session to see it it could get the rest. I moved the virtual wall to force it to concentrate on this area, then set it to work again. By the time it was finished, it had removed about 95% of the dirt. I then went over it with a Swiffer mop with a lot of elbow grease and heavy pressure, and found it looked just about the same as before I used the Swiffer. I think to get that last little bit of ground-in dirt, I am going to have to use a scrub brush and ammonia. Once it is completely clean, I am confident the Scooba will be able to keep it clean, as long as I run it often enough.

    Comments about iRobot Scooba® 450:

I use water with a capful of Lavender floor cleaner to shampoo my floors. Immediately after use I empty and rinse the tank. The removable parts like roller blade, filter etc remove & wash and parts that do not come off I use wet paper towel to clean and dry off with dry towel. It is noisy but you get used to it, I like using my Scooba I call her Loreta. Within 3 months from purchase date I had to have the main base replaced, first it appeared like the battery would not charge so I ordered a new one, that did not fix it so irobot sent me the new base. Now 8 months later the machine turns on but will not run and irobot wants to charge me $150 to fix it. Over the phone they tell me it could be the start button problem. Why have a product that has so many defects? If the machine lasted 3 to 5 years without these hiccups them irobot has a great product. I would recommend to a friend BUT with a big warning about purchasing some kind of warranty for 3 years that irobot will have to pay to repair their product.

      Comments about iRobot Scooba® 450:

I used to have a Scooba 300 series and I loved it. I used it for almost a year until it stopped working. So I traded up for the 400. I wish I could go and buy the same one I had before because of all the problems.

Right out of the box it doesn't dispense enough water and after a couple uses one of the tread on the wheels starts coming off. I sent a request for help on the dispensing of water and I recieved a lovely answer about how it was my fault for not using the proper solution. I was using the irobot solution and water. It's always nice when they blame you off the bat before checking on any facts.

I then was asked a bunch of random questions that had nothing to do with the dispensing of water (How exactly does room size matter in water dispensing?). I'm still working to try and fix the problem, but honestly i feel I'm going to have to return this and try again or wait until the next series where they fix these little problems.

And I'm very bummed considering I LOVED my old scooba. I kind of feel that they went overboard with the tech extras. I don't need a voice telling me that you are stuck (when you aren't). I just need a basic scooba that cleans until it's done.

I bought the roomba and the scooba when I hurt my back in 07. It saved my floors and I will always own both of the products. If you said I could only have 1 the scooba would win.
My husband "blows" out my roomba occasionally.
My dog will turn it on turn his back to it lay down and "let" it get him. He acts surprised and does it all over again.

Compared to the old Scooba, it has a much shorter battery life. New, this one will only clean half of the space as my old Scooba-what is the battery going to be like after usage? My virtual wall only works occasionally- you never know when it will let the Scooba escape into another room. I have multiple IRobot products-loved them all. This one -not so much! It is very expensive and just not worth the money!

If you have pets the water filter may clog and give you error 19. Easy to follow instructions to clean filter are available. Now that I know the procedure.... I'll turn it into a routine.

I have Roomba 880, Scooba 450 and Brava 380T I use them regularly and love them all. Each has a special use. Without children or pets most people might be happy with the Brava 380T for simple mopping with a Swifter pad.
